USING YOUR TI-89 Use your calculator to help you check your answers.

TOOLS Graphing, fractions, solve for x, factor, decimals, calculating. Extra tools not required but helpful. Manual and calculator cable.

Algebra functions Under F2 Algebra Press F2 Scroll down to solve Input equation add,x) Press enter Press F2 Scroll to factor or 2 Input equation Add,x) Press enter Press F2 Scroll to expand or 3 Input equation Add,x) Press enter

When to use this tools. When you have a long equations. When you think it can’t be solve, factor or expand but you are not sure When I say is ok. LOL

Calculus Note: differentiation doesn’t evaluate the function and it doesn’t find a constant C.. Under F3 Calc >scroll down d( differentiate> input function>insert,x) >press enter. Note: integration doesn’t evaluate the integral. Under F3 Calc >scroll down to (integrate > input the function > insert,x) > press enter.

Evaluating Sin(2x)cos(x) X^2/(3x^4)+cos(x) Tan(2x)^2+tan(x) (x^3+x^2)/2x^5 Notice that if your were to evaluate this equations at different values, it will take you a lot of work. To evaluate each equation just the expression then press the with operator which looks like  ( I ) and = (number you want to evaluate) press enter.

When can you use this tools For this class you will use it at least 60% of the time. Example, if you need to find the area of x^3-3 from 3/2 to 2 and describe the graph. Since we want the area we think of integrals. Use calculus tools to find the integral. Then use the with operator to evaluate it from 3/2 and 2. To describe graphs you can use the algebra to factor.

Graphing tools Graphing is much easier with a TI calculator. Graph equations Input Data Special functions Why do we like graphs?

Introduction to graphing Go over the graph menu and look or get familiar with F2 zooming in graphs F3 tracing F5 derivatives, integrals and minimums and maximums
