18 ABE Dollars BEHAVIOR dollars – how to get them:  Speak in turn, without interrupting or blurting - $10  Speak respectfully, without insulting or instigating – $10  Speak politely, without swearing or inappropriate subject matter - $10  Accept responsibility for making a positive contribution to the classroom environment - $10  Accept responsibility for following program rules – $10  Total: $50

19 ABE Dollars Effort Dollars – how to get them:  Stay on task, without losing focus or distracting others - $10  Participate in good faith, without giving up or becoming defiant - $10  Complete assignments and turn them in independently, without prompts – $10  Effectively self-advocate - $10  Total: $40

20 ABE Dollars = Grades  ABE breakdown:  Attendance – ($10 = 10%)  Behavior – ($50 = 50%)  Effort – ($40 = 40%) ($100 = 100%)

21 ABE Dollars $100 a day is possible IF you earn $300 in a week (Monday through Thursday) THEN You can cash it in for Friday Free Time ($300 out of $400 possible = 75%)

22 ABE Dollars  If you are in RISE for 1 period/day: $300 = ½ period off  If you are in RISE for 2 periods/day: $300 = 1 period off  If you are in RISE for 3 periods/day: $300 = 2 periods off  (Periods = campus periods)

23 ABE Dollars RISE Periods vs. Campus Periods: RISE Language Arts = Campus 1st/5 th RISE Math + PE = Campus 2 nd /6 th RISE Social Sciences + Life Skills = Campus 3 rd /7th

24 ABE Dollars  Rules for free periods:  Can’t distract the class  Can be fined for Friday violations, and start the next week in a deficit  Must rotate periods (can’t take same period off all the time; have to use all before repeating any)  Dollar count starts over each week

25 Expectations What if I’m not responsible? Step One: student/teacher contract Step Two: homework assignments (written essays) with parent/guardian signature Step Three: Parent/guardian conference Step Four: Team meeting

26 Grades If you come to school every day, If your behavior is respectful, If your effort is honest, YOU WILL GET AN A.

27 Grades Grades are based on your progress toward your IEP goals. If you are here, and if you are trying, you will make progress toward your IEP goals. If your behavior is respectful, it will not get in the way of reaching your IEP goals. Show up – be respectful – try: = “A” grade

29 Assignment: write a letter to yourself We will seal these letters in envelopes, and I’ll give them back to you on the last day. Your letter should be two paragraphs. Don’t worry, this will be easy!
