2 Jerome K. Jerome is a well-known humorist and one of that writers whose literary works are full of aphorisms. They strike us with their wittiness and accuracy.

3 “I outrage that precious watch of our life, these miraculous instants, which never will return, aimlessly are spent on dream”. 4 In the history of English literature Jerome K. Jerome occupies the modest place. He cannot be compared with Dickens, Thackeray, or Bernard Shaw, but he is well known as a writer-humorist not only in his country but in other countries too.

5 Jerome Klapka Jerome, best known as the author of 'Three Men in a Boat', one of the great comic masterpieces of the English language, was born in Walsall, Staffordshire, on 2nd May 1859, the youngest of four children.

6 He attended the Philological School, later known as the Marylebone Grammar School.

8 In his free moments Jerome tried to write. He wrote plays, stories and articles, but nothing was published. His first literary success was a one-act comedy which was performed in the Globe theatre in London in 1886. The Globe theatre

9 On 21 June 1888 Jerome married divorcée Georgina Elizabeth Henrietta Stanley Marris, "Ettie" (1859–1938). Jerome and Georgina's daughter Rowena was born in 1898.

10 He went travelling all over Europe and in 1899 he visited St. Petersburg, where he was met with enthusiasm. “The Russian person - one of the most charming creatures of the globe…”

11 When the first World War began Jerome wanted to go to the front as a volunteer. The English army wouldn't accept his service but in 1916 Jerome was an ambulance driver for the French army.

12 On 17 February 1927 Jerome went back to Belsize house where a tablet graces his birth home and he was given the honour of Freeman of the Borough of Walsall in the Town Hall.

13 On 14 June 1927 Jerome died in Northampton General Hospital after suffering a series of strokes. He was cremated at Golders Green, Middlesex on 17 June and buried at St. Mary's Church, Ewelme, Oxfordshire.

15 One of his most interesting and humorous book “Three Men in a Boat” was written in 1828. The History of a very unusual journey of three english gentlemen on the river Thames in the company with their loved dog.
