1 EXTENDED SCHOOL YEAR SERVICES (ESYS) For Supervisors June, 2010

2 Programming Responsibilities Developing Budget Developing district policies and procedures – Notice Letters – Timelines – Forms – SER reports Training Teachers- data collection and forms Developing the ESY Evaluating the ESY services at end of summer

3 Programming Budget – Runs July 1-June 30 – must divide money into 2 parts – Due May 1 of each year- state funds – Usual expenditures- Salaries- teachers, therapists, paraprofessionals Employee benefits Purchased Professional Services- therapists, bus drivers Transportation- teachers, parents Supplies -only 10% of budget

4 Programming Budget – continued ****For instructional purposes only – No food, snacks, drinks – No field trips – No equipment – No indirect costs This is an extension of the regular school year IEP, not summer school

5 Funding – Where does it come from? Funding Sources – State ESYS LEAP Remediation – Federal IDEA –B and Preschool

6 Funding – What is it used for? LEAP Remediation funds – LEAP eligible students – Permissible for students who double qualify for LEAP and ESYS

7 Funding – What is it used for? ESYS funds – ESYS eligible students – Permissible for students who double qualify (LEAP and ESYS) – Permissible for LEAP students w/ dis. – Once all ESY services are provided and only for costs over the reg ed program – Transportation of LEAP students with ESY Students- no extra cost

8 Funding – What is it used for? IDEA funds – Available for ESYS after ESYS funds are exhausted – Available for LEAP after LEAP and ESYS funds are exhausted – Available to fund costs over and above regular education summer programs for any students with a disability.

10 Programming Length of Program R-R – School year 2 wks ESYS 2 wks School Year Employment – All summer while students are working All Other Criteria – based on needs of student # of Days, # of Minutes/Hours – Individualized

11 Programming Location – District decides Must consider if integration with non-disabled peers is important for skills development Homebound, if schools are not open to completes services to students with R-R issues Transportation – Must be free – Parents may transport but must be reimbursed.

12 Eligibility for ESY services should be discussed at every IEP meeting This area has been removed beginning July 1, 2010
