3.  Scan the selection before reading…look over all headings…italics, pictures etc.

5. Mark the text as you read and that will enable you to stay focused… Circle character names, underline descriptive details/facts, number sequences in the plot

6. Try to read between the lines…draw inferences

Require a paragraph or more Start with a topic sentence that states the story’s/article’s title and author Use information from the text...therefore there must be quoted material in your response Provide an insightful response Relate ideas to something else you read or heard Have a closing sentence Open Ended Responses
