The name of the element is Sulfur (but it could also be spelled as Sulphur). The symbol is S The atomic number is 16

Sulfur has been known since prehistoric time but an exact time in history is unknown. Sulfur is mentioned in the Bible in Genesis so it has been exisiting since that time. The discoverer is unknown but the Chinese was the first to use Sulfur in creative ways starting in the 3rd century. The Chinese used them to invent things for human lives.

Melting Point = 112.8 Degrees Celsius Boiling Point = 444.6 Degrees Celsius Plus: Sulfur is a non- metal In the picture, the yellow-colored elements are non-metals.

Sulfur comes in many different forms (gas, liquid, and solid). As a solid, it has a color of pale yellow and is odorless. It is also very fragile and breaks easily. When it burns, it has a blue flame and strong odor. It is found in meteorites and volcanoes. It is also found in minerals such as iron, pyrite, stibnite, gypsum, gelena, barite, and celestite. Sulfur is part of the Chalcogen family with oxygen, selenium, and polonium. The Chalcogen family is group 16 of the periodic table.

1. It is a component in gun powder (using Sulfur as a gun powder component was an invention from the Chinese) 2. It is used in some types of paper and bleaching agent 3. It is used to make Sulphuric acid 4. Used in fertilizers, promotes plant growth 5. Used in rubber so the rubber is stiff and hard and won’t melt (this practice is known as vulcanization). 6. Is used in creams to heal illnesses, infections, or diseases 7. Washed Sulfur (which is mixed with ammonia water) kills parasites (organisms that live on other living organisms) such as fleas and ticks.

Animals: Causes brain damage Destroys the nervous system Animal testing proves that Sulfur causes severe vascular damage in the brain, heart, veins, and kidney. Animal mothers can carry poisionous Sulfur and can pass it on to their babies when they feed. Environment:  As a gas, it goes up into the atmosphere and irritates the eyes, nose, and skin.

Large compounds of Sulfur Dioxide (a colorless gas that comes from Sulfur) are highly toxic. Hydrogen Sulfide can damage the sense of smell and large amounts can cause respiratory damage which can lead to death. 90% of the the solid Sulfur is used ot make Sulphuric acid The Bible refers to Sulfur as brimstone People need to eat Sulfur for good health. Without Sulfur, people would have itchy and flaking skin, and abnormal growth of hair and nails. People can also die if they lack Sulphur but this rarely happens.

Sulfur is a macronutrient A macronutrient is an element needed in big amounts in order to be of good use in living things. Eggs and meat are rich in Sulfur so most people rarely lack Sulfur.
