Common Lean tool to introduce Lean principles and thinking in organisations RIEs select critical business areas and make real improvements for patients and staff Process-focussed and brings together the team in a highly structured way Results-focussed – establishing the root cause of problems, and achieving measurable improvements Process which is action-orientated and data driven

3 IST Objectives  To deliver real improvements for patients and staff in Scotland  To provide “proof of concept” for RIEs within clinical settings in the NHS in Scotland  To build capacity and capability within IST  To encourage Health Boards to build their own capacity and capability to undertake RIE events

6 The RIE Week Monday Scene setting –Lean principle training –Sharing/completion of pre-work Tuesday What’s the current process? –Process mapping to identify waste & blockages to flow –Pinpointing root cause problems Wednesday Designing and implementing the new process Thursday Rolling out the new process Friday Reporting the implemented changes and future plans
