We use capital letters for words that are special in some way. Special people, places, and things

3 Always use a capital letter to begin:
the first word of a sentence: Today is the first day of school. the first word of a quotation: She said, “Yesterday was fun!” the names of days, months and holidays: The fourth Thursday in November is Thanksgiving. people’s first and last names Samantha Lopez

5 More special words that always need capitals
the greeting and closing in a letter: Dear Grandma, Love, Sherry People’s initials and titles: Mrs. Fox, Mr. Derpic, Dr. S.C. Lee, Pres. Obama a word that is used as a name: I went with Mom, Dad, and Aunt Terry to visit Grandma. Be careful! Don’t use a capital if you don’t use the word as someone’s name: I went with my mom, dad and my aunt to visit my grandma.
