Two are PMO6V types, one is an older PMO6R type. The V-type is the same as we flown on SOHO, the R-type is the same as on SOVA. Safety critical parts: Nothing! 11 SOVIM Observatory Davos World Radiation Center Safety Workshop 6&7 Feb. 03 ESTEC 1.2 Sovim Instrument FEM Analysis Report Conclusions of FEM (SOV-CSZ-RP-1001 / 18.12.02) The drawings at PMOD are updated with all modifications proposed by CSAG. The results from the final analyses presented in section 6 (Analysis Results) show that the optimised SOVIM Package design is sound. The first frequency of vibration is above 220Hz. The results from the simple stress analysis presented in section 6.2.2 (Results from Static Analysis) show, that no obvious stress problems exist with the present design. 12 Precision Filter Radiometer SOVIM Observatory Davos World Radiation Center Safety Workshop 6&7 Feb. 03 ESTEC 1.2 Structural Verifaction In parallel with the mechanical design, a structural analysis (FEM) has been done to asses strength compliance and dynamic behavior (first resonance frequency). See Contraves document SOV-CSZ-RP-1001, Issue 3, 18/12/2002. Validation of the FEM model and confirmation of compliance shall be done through vibration-testing on the PFM at acceptance test level. Structural design shall be based on fracture control principles and procedure. See IIRD document “SOVIM-PMO-PQA/G-109”.

13 Precision Filter Radiometer SOVIM Observatory Davos World Radiation Center Safety Workshop 6&7 Feb. 03 ESTEC 2 Pressurized System SOVIM does not contain any pressurized systems or subsystems. All internal boxes and instruments have holes to be adequately vented. The Sensor Package is vented trough three pairs of in/out valves, and in the case of DIARAD trough its openings in the cover plate.

14 Precision Filter Radiometer SOVIM 2.1 Valves The design is as for EURECA, SOVA and was space qualified (see: SOVIM- PMO-VER/G-002 ). The pressure difference to activate the valve is set to ±50hPa, which is individually tested for each valve. This sub-units are re-flight units, already used on ESA-EURECA and was successfully tested at ESA/ESTEC Testcenter Noordwijk (NL) according to the requirements: EURECA Electromagnetic Compatibility and Power Quality Specification” SPE 1200 604. All five Covers are mounted on the cover plate. The locking pin is to hold the cover during launch and reentry in position, to protect the sensitive surfaces against contamination.
