1. IPv6 deployment in AI3 network Suguru Yamaguchi WIDE Project

2. Current Status IPv6 networks at all the partners including UDL sites are up and running. –Using our AI3 prefix –Native / no tunnel over the AI3 segment Tunneling is existing for UDL operation.

3. Whats our steps? Training operators is a key issue. –Designing IPv6 network is a good tutorial for operators in AI3. –Configuring IPv6 network by our own is a good training for operators in AI3 –Multiple face-to-face session and workshop for IPv6 network configuring and operation. Try to develop/install/operate the same services and operational mechanisms available for IPv4. –Traffic monitoring, WWW, name services, portals, …. –Try to provide the same or the better operational quality on IPv6 network

4. Whats our current efforts? HRD for IPv6 network programming –For research activity. User environment –MacOS X and BSD variants are almost no problem, but some applications cannot use IPv6 (e.g. iChat-AV on MacOS X) –Windows and Linux are slightly tough for ordinary end users. More tools and guidances.

5. Whats the carrots? No filtering on usage Broader bandwidth for the global connectivity. Prioritize IPv6 operation.
