1 BEGINNING ADMINISTRATOR (BA) MENTORING PROGRAM 2015 -2016

2  Provides support and assistance to the BA from a trained mentor  Helps the BA develop leadership skills  Supports the BA’s Professional Growth Plan (PGP)

3  According to the rules governing Educator Mentoring, 3.01 states “Every novice teacher and beginning administrator employed in a public school, open- enrollment charter school or other public educational setting shall participate in mentoring for no less than one (1) year.”

4 Building Level Administrator  Principal  Assistant Principal Curriculum/Program Administrator  Special Education  Gifted and Talented  Career/Technical  Curriculum Specialist  Content Area Specialist  Adult Education Superintendents are not mentored through the BA Mentoring program but through the Arkansas Association of Educational Administrators (AAEA)

5  Dean of Students  Instructional Facilitators or Coaches Check with school district for how job is “coded” or consult the “Job Code List for Licensed Positions with No Students Attached”. Positions Not Qualified for Mentoring

6  As stated in Section 3.01.32 of the Mentoring Rules, once an administrator has been mentored either as a building level administrator or curriculum program administrator, mentoring is no longer required

7 Administrator Licensure Completion Plan (ALCP)  Administrator with an ALCP is mentored until the ALCP is completed, up to three years  Upon completion of the ALCP, the BA applies for Standard license

8  Any administrator being mentored attends Induction Training except an administrator with an ALCP who attended induction training the first year of mentoring and has not completed the ALCP

9  August 3, 2015 BAs trained at the Little Rock Marriott  AAEA General Session begins at 3:30 pm  A Commissioner’s Memo will be posted on the ADE website with all registration information  Induction Training on August 3 may count as professional development if approved by school district

10  August 3 & 4, 2015 BAs required to attend AAEA sessions equivalent to six (6) hours which can include general sessions; 1.5 hour credit given for session during Induction Training will count towards the six (6) hours  August 5, 2015 BAs may attend designated sessions on this day if needing to complete the required six (6) hours

11  August 4 & 5, 2015 BAs may attend TESS/LEADS Law & Process session at AAEA for new administrators  August 6 & 7, 2015 BAs may choose to attend TESS/LEADS Law & Process session at Holiday West in Little Rock  All new administrators required to attend a three (3) hour TESS/LEADS Law & Process training

12 September 21, 2015, Holiday Inn Airport, Little Rock  Make-up Induction Training for all BAs identified after the August 3 training  BAs attending September 21 must also attend one of the three following AAEA conferences to earn the required six hours of session time

13  AAEA Joint Principal Fall Conference, October 12-13, Little Rock Marriott  AAEA Assistant Principal Conference, October 21 Little Rock Doubletree  AAEA Fall Conference, October 29-30, Doubletree  A Commissioner’s Memo will be posted in August with registration information

14  Must hold a standard administrator license unless the law does not require a license or the license is waived by the charter of a public charter school  Must have at least one (1) year of administrator experience in the area being mentored (not required to be presently in the position)  “Should” be located in the same school district as BA but may be from a neighboring district  Must be trained in the Arkansas Mentoring Model

15  Mentor stipend is$400 a year for mentoring a BA  Mentor from another district can be paid as contract labor by the BA’s district  Project Director ensures BA is paired with a mentor

16  Any mentor assigned to mentor a BA for the 2015- 2016 school year, attends Mentor Training August 3, 2015 at the Little Rock Marriott, if not trained during 2013-2014 or 2014-2015  Mentors assigned after August 3 attend make-up training on September 21 at the Holiday Inn Airport in Little Rock  Training may count as professional development if allowed by school district  A Commissioner’s Memo will be posted on the ADE website http://www.arkansased.org/http://www.arkansased.org/ with registration information

17  First Semester - BA completes Survive and Thrive Resource Module in AR MOODLE with assistance of mentor  BA develops Professional Growth Plan (PGP)  BA selects two (2) other Resource Modules which supports the PGP

18  Second Semester - BA completes a minimum of two (2) Resource Modules supporting the PGP by May 1, 2015; upon module completion, a survey is completed for each module by the BA  Resource Module activities may be used as artifacts and uploaded into BloomBoard  Resource module activities are not uploaded into MOODLE  BA completes End-of-Year Survey  School district may allow resource modules to count as professional development; ADE recommends four (4) hours; however, it is at the district’s discretion to determine the number of hours

19 BA MENTORS WILL:  Collaborate with the BA face to face, by phone, email, and text as he/she assists the BA with the on- line resource modules in AR MOODLE  School District determines method of verification that mentoring has taken place

20  School districts and open-enrollment public charter schools are expected to follow all mentoring rules  All Mentors and Beginning Administrators must be registered with the Office of Educator Effectiveness, all established guidelines must be followed, and all appropriate documentation submitted  Failure to abide by mentoring rules will result in being placed in accredited-cited status
