2 The Graham Institute serves as a boundary organization that engages cross-disciplinary researchers, decision makers, and community stakeholders in developing solutions for complex sustainability challenges. Data Driven Detroit (D3) provides accessible high-quality information and analysis to drive informed decision-making. PartnersPartners

3 Goals  Gather, assess, and map data on sustainability-related topics and make the findings available to the public  Create a sustainability index for Detroit to inform decision making and promote sustainable development in Detroit Detroit Sustainability Indicators Project

7 2013 – 2015 Summer Data Institutes Workshop series focused on using sustainability indicators and other data for policy efforts and community planning Details  3 workshops in Summer 2013 at the U-M Detroit Center  20-25 participants, 10 -15 organizations  Themes built around the Sustainability Triangle  Utilization of Sustainability Indicators Project data and other D3 data  Format of 2014 and 2015 Institutes to be informed by participant feedback from 2013 Driving Detroit Forward with Data

8 Research-centered, user-focused, and participatory approach  Engage policymakers, researchers, nonprofit organizations, social impact companies, neighborhood organizations, and other Detroit stakeholders  Collaborate with participants to design and implement the workshops  Create useable and accessible data products that meet user-defined needs Goals  Increase data literacy and interest in using data to address sustainability  Provide a forum for cross-sector, data-driven conversations about Detroit’s sustainability challenges and opportunities  Identify additional data needs for future project development  Enhance D3’s online interactive mapping tools and resources community members can use to improve their understanding of sustainability in Detroit Driving Detroit Forward with Data
