7 Personal Financial Literacy Personal Financial Literacy did NOT go away on September 1, 2009. Because the social studies TEKS revision is in progress, and personal financial literacy is being incorporated into the TEKS for Economics, Personal Financial Literacy is still being covered under TAC 74.34 until the new TEKS are adopted and added to Chapter 74.

Bilingual/ESL Program New Pre-K and K-1 instructional materials, middle school reading materials, and Spanish literature/reading instructional materials (grades 2-6) in classrooms in 2010-2011 Spanish grade 6 TAKS will not be administered beginning in 2009-10 due to new legislation. AEIS Reporting in 2009-10 will provide reports by program models as reflected in Texas Education Code §29.066. TEA, in collaboration with ESC Region 20, is providing professional development on the English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS) for administrators and teachers. ELA/Reading ELA/Reading TEKS professional development provided by ESCs continues in 2009-2010. New K-1 instructional materials, middle school reading materials, and literature/ reading instructional materials (2- 12) in classrooms in 2010- 2011. New ELA (2-12), handwriting (1- 3), spelling (1-6), and middle school speech instructional materials in classrooms in 2011- 2012. New 3–8 assessments (replacing TAKS) and the EOC for English I will be given in the spring of 2012. Field testing will occur in the spring of 2011.
