2  To recap from last class, you were asked to develop your own version of the atomic model.  There were many different versions that were presented and the same aspirations for a perfect model of the atom invested by scientists too.

3  Throughout history scientists have accepted five atomic models.  Our perception of the atom has changed from the early Greek model because of clues or evidences that have been gathered through scientific experiments.  As more evidence was gathered old models were discarded or improved upon.

It required a stronger health warning on cigarette packages, saying "Warning: The Surgeon General Has Determined that Cigarette Smoking Is Dangerous to Your Health". 7  You and your partners will search the Internet sources provided to learn more about the scientists and discoveries that have led to our current knowledge of the structure of the atom.  Using your research, write a podcast script of the development of modern atomic theory.  Explain the five historical models of the atom - Democritus, Thomson's Plum Pudding, Rutherford, Bohr, Modern Electron Cloud

8  You will work with your partners.  Read the entire WebQuest.  Use the computer to get information about listed scientists and their discoveries that were not in your text. You may also use the textbook or use library resources.

9  Include the following on your script: 1) Names of all 12 scientists in the table below 2) The year of the scientists discovery 3) In 2-3 sentences tell the importance of the discovery that relates to the structure ofof the atom (some of these people did many types of research)  On a piece of large poster paper of the paper draw the five historical models of the atom – Democritus, Thomson's Plum Pudding, Rutherford, Bohr, Modern Electron Could model (you may make models to bring to class if your prefer)

11  A timeline is in chronological order – earliest time to latest time.  Because your are going to keep your comments to 2-3 sentences, a graph or report will not be appropriate.

12  This assignment will allow you to:  Observe how the Atomic Theory started as a philosophical idea and through quantitative experimentation  View it’s development to include the current Electron Cloud Model.  See that as scientists discovered more and more information they discarded parts of older theories to design an atomic model that provided a more accurate representation of the atom.  Understand the importance for scientists to challenge current theories and modify them as more knowledge becomes available.  Understand how your research provides you with a historical perspective of the knowledge of the atom's structure.
