2 Who is a citizen ? With few exceptions anyone born in the U. S., Washington D.C., and U.S. Territories. Children born to diplomats are not citizens.

3 Can You Be A Citizen of Two Countries? Dual Citizenship A citizen of two Countries.

4 Who is an Alien? Are you an Alien? Aliens are noncitizens.

5 Are You an Immigrant? An immigrant is an alien who plans to live here permanently. U. S. Quota of immigrants per year is 675,000. 27,000 for any one country.

8 Illegal Aliens Millions are in the U. S. illegally.

9 Legal Aliens – What they can do legally. 1. Hold a job 2. Own property 3. Attend school 4. Travel freely in the U.S.

10 What Legal Aliens Can’t Do Vote Run for public office Work in government jobs Must carry an ID card at all times.

11 Naturalization - The Process File a declaration of intent. Study English, American History, Civics. Must live in the U.S. for 5 years. (3 years if married to a U.S. citizen.)

12 File an Application for Naturalization. Application review by the USCIS. United States Citizenship and Immigration Service. Have interview. Take Citizenship test on U. S. history, civics, and english.

13 Take an oath of loyalty to the U.S.

14 Can You Lose Your Citizenship? By becoming a citizen of another country.
