Following the Children’s Act 1989/2004 as the main piece of Legislation Emphasis on Safeguarding What does this mean? Promote Welfare Protect from Harm Prevent Abuse

Long Term provision for the Care of Children Carrying out assessments of prospective families Matching the children with the families and supporting the placement

5 Social Care Department
Older People Community Care Act 1990 The right to an assessment of needs A way to look at needs being Maslow’s Hierarchy of need Please note it is needs not wants Should work in partnership with the older Person and their Carers

6 Working with the Carers
Under the Carers recognition Act 2000 Carers have a right to an assessment of their needs Could be a conflict between their needs and the needs of the older person Should have a social worker to represent each party

7 Purchaser and Provider
The Social workers assess the needs They then plan to meet the needs using a Care Planning process They will then purchase individual services that will meet the needs This could be from private organisations Voluntary organisations or Social Services
