3 The Lisbon Treaty The Lisbon Treaty
Article 165 The Union shall contribute to the development of quality education by encouraging cooperation between Member States and, if necessary, by supporting and supplementing their action, while fully respecting the responsibility of the Member States for the content of teaching and the organisation of education systems and their cultural and linguistic diversity. NEW: The Union shall contribute to the promotion of European sporting issues, while taking account of the specific nature of sport, its structures based on voluntary activity and its social and educational function. The Lisbon Treaty Article 167 The Union shall contribute to the flowering of the cultures of the Member States, while respecting their national and regional diversity and at the same time bringing the common cultural heritage to the fore. Article 166 The Union shall implement a vocational training policy which shall support and supplement the action of the Member States, while fully respecting the responsibility of the Member States for the content and organisation of vocational training.

OECD is major knowledge provider - strengthening the knowledge base of EAC's policies in important policy areas Member States ask to avoid duplication of work and fully exploit synergies in data collection Relations EAC-EDU got formalised with 2013 Cooperation Arrangement, now to be renegotiated
