2 ©2007 GS1 US ©2008 GS1 in Europe Project Overview The Fruit & Vegetable sector has made a clear decision to adopt the GS1 Standards to improve the efficiency of the supply chain. The Fruit & Vegetable business is not a national, but a global business with suppliers from all parts of the world, which need to make efficient trade. There is a need to build a common European framework to ensure alignment in the implementation of GS1 Standards and avoid divergences in the deployment of the GS1 System: Common European platform to gather and share European requirements One European voice in global standardisation and coordination. Participation of industry (Producer, supplier, retailer) and associations (GS1, Frug I Com, IFPS etc.). Common implementation guidelines across Europe.

The main deliverables of the project are: Product identification Master data alignment Company and party identification

The GLN can be used to identify physical locations and legal entities where is a need to retrieve pre-defined information to improve the efficiency of communication with the supply-chain. Global Location Numbers are a prerequiste for electronic commerce messages or to access information from the Global data synchronisation network

9 ©2007 GS1 US ©2008 GS1 in Europe GDSN Guideline - Draft Fresh food specific attributes: species, genus, flesh colour, … Provide additional clarity on how to use specific GDSN attributes in the FF industry: packaging types, organic items, brands, country of origin, … It is ready to implement for test purposes. To be used as a basis for the pilots that will be executed in 2014.
