8 How can we improve further? A number of suggestions were around visits and events. The comments below were from individual parents. Could we include more off site experiences? Can we give more notice of school events so that parents can arrange to attend more easily? Would prefer swimming lessons to continue as before Would prefer residential just for Y5/6 children What we are doing: Continuing to think about where offsite experiences are helpful to learning, although we have to balance the cost of this Giving more dates in advance in the newsletter We will monitor how swimming goes – some parents were very supportive of the change, although we know some were not. Consulting about the residential visit for next year. Some suggestions were around curriculum and homework Kirfs (maths ‘quick recall facts’) could be sent home as a paper copy rather than just on web site More research or paper based homework/ structured maths homework We could increase our languages teaching further. We could work towards sharing more information with parents throughout the year about their child’s learning. What we are doing: We have emailed KIRFs and made paper copies available in our learning resource area. We will continue to monitor homework and report back again during the year We are negotiating with our Chinese partners to introduce new ways of language teaching. We are investigating ways of sharing more information during the year, in addition to the newsletter, home learning books, homework etc. We hope to implement firm plans by the new year. Other comments: Is grammar taught in a structured way? It would be good if the school had its own sports facilities Check that children eat their packed lunch What we are doing: We do teach grammar in a structured way alongside the other aspects of writing. We are constantly reviewing and improving our sports facilities and hope to make further improvements this year.
