My Hope is Built on Nothing Less CW #382 Verses 1-4 Text: Edward Mote, 1797-1874 Setting: MAGDALEN Tune: John Stainer, 1840-1901

Verse 1: My hope is built on nothing less Than Jesus' blood and righteousness; I dare to make no other claim But wholly lean on Jesus' name.

Refrain: On Christ, the solid rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand.

Verse 2: When darkness veils his lovely face, I rest on his unchanging grace; In ev'ry high and stormy gale My anchor holds within the veil.

Refrain: On Christ, the solid rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand.

Verse 3: His oath, his covenant and blood Support me in the raging flood; When ev'ry earthly prop gives way, He then is all my hope and stay.

Refrain: On Christ, the solid rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand.

Verse 4 (Please Rise): When he shall come with trumpet sound, Oh, may I then in him be found, Clothed in his righteousness alone, Faultless to stand before his throne.

Refrain: On Christ, the solid rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand.

Opening Verses Pastor: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. All: Amen.

Opening Verses Pastor: I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit All: Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.

Opening Verses Pastor: Surely we were sinful at birth, sinful from the time our mothers conceived us. All: But we were washed, we were sanctified, we were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Opening Verses Pastor: As baptized children of God, we confess our sins.

Confession of Sin All: Holy and merciful Father, I confess that I am by nature sinful and that I have disobeyed you in my thoughts, words, and actions. I have done what is evil and failed to do what is good. For this I deserve your punishment both now and in eternity.

Confession of Sin All: But I am truly sorry for my sins, and trusting in my Savior Jesus Christ, I pray: Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner.

(Pastor announces our forgiveness) All: Amen.

Song of Praise Now thank we all our God with hearts and hands and voices, Who wondrous things has done, in whom his world rejoices, Who from our mother’s arms has blessed us on our way With countless gifts of love and still is ours today.

Prayer of the Day Pastor: Let us pray. (Pastor says the prayer of the day) All: Amen.

Children’s Message

Lord Jesus Christ, the Church's Head CW #536 Verses 1-4 Text: Johann Mentzer, 1658-1734 Setting: REUTER Tune: Friedrich O. Reuter, 1863-1924

Verse 1: Lord Jesus Christ, the Church's head, You are her one foundation. In you she trusts, before you bows, And waits for your salvation. Built on this rock secure, Your Church shall endure Though all the world decay And all things pass away. Oh, hear, oh, hear us, Jesus!

Verse 2: O Lord, let this your little flock, Your name alone confessing, Continue in your loving care, True unity possessing. Your sacraments, O Lord, And your saving Word To us e'er pure retain. Grant that they may remain Our only strength and comfort.

Verse 3: Help us to serve you evermore With hearts both pure and lowly. And may your Word, that light divine, Shine on in splendor holy That we repentance show, In faith ever grow. The pow'r of sin destroy And evils that annoy. Oh, make us faithful Christians.

Verse 4: And for your gospel let us dare To sacrifice all treasure; Teach us to bear your blessed cross, To find in you all pleasure. Oh, grant us steadfastness In joy and distress. Lord, for your mercy's sake, Let us by grace partake Of endless joy and glory.

“The Gates of Death & Hell Can’t Overcome the Church!”

In thankfulness for our salvation, we support God’s work with our offerings.

Offering Prayer Prayer of the Church Pastor: …let us pray to the Lord, All: Lord, have mercy.

Lord’s Prayer All: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread.

Lord’s Prayer All: Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Lord’s Prayer All: For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen

The Church's One Foundation CW # 538 Verses 1-5 Text: Samuel J. Stone, 1839-1900 Setting: AURELIA Tune: Samuel S. Wesley, 1810-76

Verse 1: The Church's one foundation Is Jesus Christ, her Lord; She is his new creation By water and the Word. From heav'n he came and sought her To be his holy bride; With his own blood he bought her, And for her life he died.

Verse 2: Elect from ev'ry nation, Yet one o'er all the earth; Her charter of salvation: One Lord, one faith, one birth. One holy name she blesses, Partakes one holy food, And to one hope she presses, With ev'ry grace endued.

Verse 3: The Church shall never perish Her dear Lord, to defend, To guide, sustain, and cherish, Is with her to the end. Though there be those that hate her And strive to see her fail, Against both foe and traitor She ever shall prevail.

Verse 4: Though with a scornful wonder The world sees her oppressed, By schisms rent asunder, By heresies distressed, Yet saints their watch are keeping; Their cry goes up, "How long?" And soon the night of weeping Shall be the morn of song.

Verse 5 (Please Rise): Mid toil and tribulation And tumult of her war She waits the consummation Of peace forevermore Till with the vision glorious Her longing eyes are blest And the great Church victorious Shall be the Church at rest.

Pastor: Let us praise the Lord. All: Thanks be to God.

God’s Blessing Pastor: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. All: Amen.

Christ Is Made the Sure Foundation CW # 531 Verses 1, 4 Text: Latin hymn, c. 8th cent. Setting: WESTMINSTER ABBEY Tune: Henry Purcell, 1659-95, adapt.

Verse 1: Christ is made the sure foundation, Christ, our head and cornerstone, Chosen of the Lord and precious, Binding all the Church in one, Holy Zion’s help forever And our confidence alone.

Verse 4: Praise and honor to the Father, Praise and honor to the Son, Praise and honor to the Spirit, Ever Three and ever One, One in might and one in glory while unending ages run!
