4 Terms of Copyright How long does a copyright last? for works created after January 1, 1978 copyright lasts for the life of the author + 70 years for anonymous work, a pseudonymous work, or hired work copyright lasts 95 years from the year of its first publication or 120 years from the year of its creation, whichever expires first for works first published prior to 1978 the term will vary depending on several factors see http://www.copyright.govhttp://www.copyright.gov

The nature of the copyrighted work 3. The amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole 4. The effect of the use upon the potential market for, or value of, the copyrighted work

6 Always Ask Always try to get permission from the copyright owner before using copyrighted material. If you cannot get permission, do not use copyrighted material unless fair use obviously applies.
