2. USA  The U.S. Olympic Committee is talking to 10 cities about a possible bid for the 2024 Summer Games. The United States has not hosted a Summer Olympics since the 1996 Atlanta Games.

Project Overview  You and your groups (no more than 5 per group) job is to find a City in the United States that has not hosted an Olympic games and convince me that they would be the best host for the 2024 Summer Olympics. The following cities have been hosts: Salt Lake City, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Lake Placid, and St. Louis.

5. The Criteria To Be A Host  1) The city must prove that it is big enough to handle the Olympics. With the games come a huge number of tourists, athletes, journalists, and politicians. They must show that they can host the games in new stadiums and venues, they must house all the people in adequate hotels, and they have to transport everyone from one place to the next with a reliable mass transit system. They also need to show that they can handle the high level of security needed at the games.

6. Criteria  2) The city needs to convince residents that the expenses of covering the Olympics (which may be covered by raising taxes) are worth it in city improvement and new jobs.

7. Criteria  3) The cities need to maintain a highly positive media exposure to carry the games.

8. Things to think about…  Which City? Why?  Olympic theme? For Example Tulsa, Oklahoma "Native America theme”. Tulsa was first settled between 1828 and 1836 by the Lochapoka Band of Creek Native American Tribe.  Would weather be a factor? Would it be too hot in this city during the summer?  Can the City hold all the Olympic sports? Do they have enough venues, stadiums? Where would each event take place?  What would be the theme of your Olympics? Why?

9. Finally  Each presentation should be different. Therefore, the only requirement is it has to be a minimum of 5 slides. Above is the criteria to be a host as well as some extra things I want you to think about. As a group you need to decide which stuff to put into your project. In theory this is a sales pitch, Think outside the box! You need to convince me that your city is the perfect choice to host the 2024 Summer Olympics Good luck!
