5. Why would you want an Iphone? The next few slides give a BRIEF outline of the capabilities of the Iphone 3G.

6. Phone The Iphone’s main feature is obviously the phone. It allows you in call to hold the call, mute your microphone, make conference calls and much more, including the ability to browse the internet and view photos during a call. The advanced address book allows you to call, email, or text a contact with one tap, and lets you scroll, search and edit contacts with surprising efficiency. You can also send and receive calls using the supplied headset.

7. Built in web browsing via WiFi, 3G or Edge. Full HTML using Safari, use the multi touch display to zoom in and out. Turn Iphone sideways to see larger pages. You can bookmark favourite pages for later viewing, zoom in using the multitouch feature (see later slides) and browse the internet anywhere in the world (apart from under the sea obviously – it’s not waterproof)

8. GPS Navigation using GPRS networks. Find out directions using Maps and GPS navigation, and find points of interest and even see where your contacts are at any one time. You can also see constantly updated traffic information and lets you see an actual arial view of the Earth (much like Google Earth).

9. Send and receive email wirelessly. Send email to everyone using the internet, WiFi, Edge or 3G, and, as email is free, you can easily send photos, videos, documents and any other media to standard phones, PCs and other Iphone users.

10. Take photos and browse photos and videos Browse videos and photos in portrait or turn it sideways to view them in their native aspect ratios (widescreen for landscape pictures, for example).

11. App store and accelerometer for games and other useful applications Downl0ad games over WiFi, 3G or Edge to be controlled by rotating the Iphone and touching the display in up to 5 places at once (for a music game for example).

12. Customisable Homescreen The homescreen can be customised by adding new screens, moving icons around, putting links to websites you often visit, deleting icons and moving things into or out of the bar at the bottom. The homescreen makes it easy to access all of the Iphone’s features with just a tap or two.

13. Innovative control system Multi-touch allows you to zoom in on things like websites and photos by just dragging two fingers in opposite directions across the display. Conversely, moving your fingers in a ‘pinch’ motion across the display zooms out. Attention to detail is very important on the Iphone, as well as it’s ability to show what you’re doing clearly while having plenty of options and graphical frills. The accelerometer (fancy name for motion sensor) senses when the Iphone is moved around or rotated, allowing programs like calculator to turn scientific when rotated and videos to go widescreen.

14. Ipod and Coverflow If you rotate the Iphone while in the Ipod feature, you can access cover flow (right) which allows you to browse your music by album art. Also, it comes supplied with headphones to listen to your music privately.

15. Sensors, buttons and sockets The built in accelerometer notices the motion made when moving a phone up to your ear, and automatically switches off the display to prevent accidental button presses. It also makes the Iphone a games controller and allows it to use Coverflow and other widescreen apps. Sleep/Power Volume up/down Silent switch Headphone jack Speaker/microphone Computer/charger socket Ambient light sensor allows Iphone to adjust screen brightness when it’s dark and increase it when it’s light.
