8. From France they head to Germany from the west
Hitler orders large counterattack in west to split allied troops
Broke into American lines giving it the name Battle of the Bulge
Allies eventually win  Hitler’s losses lead him to only be able to retreat from that point on
Hitler & his wife commit suicide
Eisenhower accepts unconditional surrender from the Third Reich
V-E Day = victory in Europe Day

9. V-E day marks end of fighting in Europe but fighting still in the Pacific theater
