3 What is the Canadian Association of Physicists? A national network of 1600 member physicists working in Canadian educational, industrial, and research settings; A strong and effective advocacy group for support of, and excellence in, physics research and education; A sponsor and supporter of physics events and activities in Canada, including: - CAP annual congress - Our journal: Physics in Canada - Canadian Undergraduate Physics Conference - Canadian Undergraduate Physics Journal. CAP represents the voice of Canadian physicists to government, granting agencies, and international societies.

6 Student Activities and Opportunities The CAP's Educational Trust Fund (ETF) is a charitable fund which supports the many activities undertaken by the CAP in support of physics education and student activities. The fund derives its income from individual or corporate donations. annual CAP Lecture Tour CAP High School Prize Examination Lloyd G. Elliot University Prize Examination Canadian Undergraduate Physics Conference Canada-Wide Science Fair Canadian Physics Olympiad Stoicheff Memorial Graduate Scholarship (new in 2012) The ETF supports many activities to encourage physics students, e.g.:

8 Professional Certification The Canadian Association of Physicists offers a professional certification program, currently with over 250 members. Undergraduate students in 3 rd* and 4 th year physics (or closely related programs) and graduate students are encouraged to write the Professional Certification exam, which is one of the requirements of the program. The Professional Certification exam is offered in late January in physics departments across the country. for more information visit : www.cap.ca * 3 rd year students write the exam for experience/practice only P.Phys. phys.
