3 Most movies show around 20-30 frames per second- the more frames per second, the smoother the video will play back. How long will the final video be? 24fps times 30 seconds = 720 frames At what interval do you need to shoot the frames. First, Estimate how long the actual event will last- let’s just say 4 hours or 14, 400 seconds. 14,400 seconds (length of actual event) divided by 720 frames (frames needed for final movie) = 20-second intervals between shots/frames

4 Shooting your still photographs Use an Intervalmeter is a timer remote controller. Program your camera to shoot at certain times and at certain intervals, such as 1 frame every 5 seconds, 1 frame every minute, and so on. $15-$200 On amazon. Make sure it is the right one for your camera.

6 The alternative: To stay with your camera and take a picture every minute, every 5 min, every 10 min, every hour, etc.

7 Set your camera to record JPG to save on space. Set your camera’s white balance to manual – auto white balance can change and fluctuate especially when light gets brighter or dimmer over time. Set your camera’s exposure manually Make sure your batteries are charged up Memory card space

8 Editing Your Photos Automate all adjustments if necessary, in Photoshop. Create an action in Photoshop and adjust them all. Making The Movie Using QUICKTIME PRO: Under File window- “open image sequence” Quicktime will walk you through the rest. Using IMOVE: Import all your photos into iPhoto Start a new project in iMovie Drag images into iMovie track and set duration to “0.03” (3 frames per second), or whatever you want.

9 Making the photos into a movie: Quicktime Pro: Underneath the File window of Quicktime, select “Open Image Sequence”, then navigate to the folder with your photos and select the first one. Hit okay, and then QuickTime will ask you how many frames-per-second you want your movie to have. QuickTime will do all the rest for you. iMovie: Add each image at a time and decide how many seconds you want them to play for.

10 ASSIGNMENT: Create a Time Lapse video that documents something happen over a span of time. The video should be no less than 15 seconds and no more than 5 min.
