4 The Collapse of Big 3 & Why?  Cars from Ford, Chrysler and GM weren’t as good as their competitors’.  New rivals, such as Kia, entered the market.  Import-friendly areas added population, and sales grew faster than in domestic strongholds.  The market for Sport Utility Vehicles collapsed, hammering a profitable market the U.S. companies had counted on.

5 Trend in Car Sales  In Ohio, Ford sales fell 43% in 10 years, and GM sales fell 32%. Meanwhile, Honda sales jumped 45%, Toyota climbed 30% and Hyundai/Kia sales increased sevenfold.
