2 Strengths  General Motors has a strong position an today’s market. Having this strong position globally, General Motors can integrate its operations so each manufacturer can concetrate on its core competencies.  One example of this is how General Motors has shared costs with their own global alliances, through this General Motors can stay in bussiness and satisfy its costumers.

3  Another strength for General Motors is having the largest amount of annual sales at $185,524.00million, reaching about 15 percent of the global market.  One of the reason that General Motors is sitting at the top of the industry is because of the money General Motors invest in the ad industry.  General Motors takes threats as an opportunities to have a new strategy, for example the threat of losing “safety professionals” due to the retirement, GM has turned this into an opportunity of developing the recruiting and training program.

4  Also GM has made advances in the E-business strategy and technology for the Asian automotive industry so this company has turned a losing global market share threat into an other opportunity enlarge its utilities.

5 Weaknesses  The main weakness that General Motors has been battling for the last century is employee satisfaction which leads to constant strikes throughout the corporation.  General Motors is currently spending a large proportion of their earnings on health care for their retirees generous plans to attract workers to its plants but this has become a problem because GM is facing a difficult future as theses costs of retirement continue to rise.

6  The employee’s satisfaction is very important to avoid strikes. One example of how a strike can affect not only the local plant was when one of the plant in Germany caused others plants in Europe to lay-off close to 12,000 jobs across the continent because this strike squeezed some of the European production due to the lack of two essential parts that are usually provided by the Germans plants.  That is why it is very to keep workers happy to avoid this kind of situations.

7 Strategies  One of the most current project is releasing two Hybrid cars in China and hopefully more in the United States in 2007  Generals motors is in first line when it comes to the Hydrogen3 fuel cell prototype; GM hopes to become the leader in the future of hydrogen fuel.

10  Another strategy that General Motors has implemented is the switch from producing seventy percent light trucks to producing seventy percent cars.  GM plans on implementing a line of compact pickups which include more car-like creature comfort and style.  The add-ons such as CD and DVD players, General Motors has made them affordable for those who desire them, including the Onstar feature;  This feature let costumers check their e-mails as well as trade stock via different voice commands.

11  Generals Motors has recently entered into the retail industry with its first ever General Motors Collections Store in Detroit McNamara Terminal.  The retail store sells merchandise from miniature models of General Motors manufactured cars and racing cars to hats and t-shirts with its most popular automobiles on them.  This store makes 2,000 a day and GM is planning to take this store as a template to use it in other cities.  GM gains free advertising with by offering to the public the choice to supporting their favorite sport car or any General Motors product.
