Tinker Tot: technology visual component hook Goal: Create a 30 minute lesson plan that teaches students about the difference between organic and inorganic foods. Teach the importance of healthy foods on our bodies and the connection to Sustainable living. The Hook activity is something interactive to get students thinking about the bigger topics. Key here is that it’s interactive and student centered. *We want to introduce them to the big idea of Sustainability and its importance in terms that young students understand. Ideas:  Journal Prompt and Entry  Stand Up/Sit Down (Agree/Disagree)  Tangible (something to touch and move around) Manipulative  Think/Pair/Share

Tinker Tot: technology visual component Input Goal: Create a 30 minute lesson plan that teaches students about the difference between organic and inorganic foods. Teach the importance of healthy foods on our bodies and the connection to Sustainable living. The INPUT is where we teach students something new. We are giving them information that they don’t already know. We need to connect it back to sustainability. This should be interesting, engaging and theatrical! Remember: we have to keep the interest of 5 th graders, so relate to them! Ideas:  Definitions  Pictures  Videos  Will be displayed on an iPad

Tinker Tot: technology visual component Check for understanding Goal: Create a 30 minute lesson plan that teaches students about the difference between organic and inorganic foods. Teach the importance of healthy foods on our bodies and the connection to Sustainable living. The CFU (check for understanding) is where we check to see what students have learned. We can ask some questions that all students will answer and give you feedback on. This is also a good time to have students hear from their peers and fix any mistakes they have made in their own heads. Ideas:  Multiple Choice  Colored Card Answers  Cold Call Question

Tinker Tot: technology visual component ACTIVITY Goal: Create a 30 minute lesson plan that teaches students about the difference between organic and inorganic foods. Teach the importance of healthy foods on our bodies and the connection to Sustainable living. The Activity is where we let them practice and tinker with the new information we’ve introduced. They get to work together, with some ground rules, to produce something to turn in (and eventually keep). This should be something that makes them THINK ! Ideas:  Bill of Rights  Skit  Poster

Tinker Tot: technology visual component EXIT SLIP Goal: Create a 30 minute lesson plan that teaches students about the difference between organic and inorganic foods. Teach the importance of healthy foods on our bodies and the connection to Sustainable living. The EXIT SLIP is where we get to double check that all students participated and can prove their learning. It can be a time for students to give feedback or tell you something they understand now. Ideas:  Definitions  Free Write  Answer Questions  “3 things you likes, 2 things you learned, 1 thing you want to know…”

Tinker Tot: Rehearsal Signature rubric Goal: Create a 30 minute lesson plan that teaches students about the difference between organic and inorganic foods. Teach the importance of healthy foods on our bodies and the connection to Sustainable living. Your job: All groups are responsible for getting useful feedback from one adult, staff member or teacher. The lesson is approximately 30 minutes long and should be reviewed in full, by all group members, with all visual components and printed activity materials.
