2 INTRODUCTION ATIS Software Description and Capabilities
ATIS Data Sources Installations Summary

3 ATIS OVERVIEW ATIS is a Navy Standard Digital Data Repository and Presentation System that provides easy access to Technical Data on Local Area Networks Provides a Standard Platform on which to link Technical Documentation and Logistics/Configuration Indices Platforms: Client Server Standalone- Windows NT, Windows 2000 Network- Novell Server (16 bit version 4.1 ….Being Phased Out) IT-21/ISNS Network & NTCSS Optimized- Windows NT Server, Windows 2000 (32-Bit version of software) Current version is 1.3 Web ATIS version 1.0 (for Intranets) in testing/certification Preparing package for PPL/SSIL certification ATIS application is certified for use standalone and on local area networks. Because of drive mapping requirements for the products accessed in ATIS, access is restricted to local area network. Wide area network access would only be allowed with virtual private network connections Web ATIS uses IIS 5.0, Windows 2000 Advanced Server, Microsoft SQL Server, and Cold Fusion MX application server. Application is designated for intranet use as some of the ETM products that are indexed/launched by the application require drive mapping, the application is restricted to intranet usage. Initial installations are intended for shipboard use.

4 ATIS CAPABILITIES AND DATA SUPPORTED
Index and retrieval of raster scanned technical manuals and engineering drawings for each ship class and airframe in the navy NIRS/NIFF and C4 Formats Per MIL-PRF-28002 Navigate Through Indexed Pages Of Raster TM Or ED Index, Display, Launch Electronic Technical Manuals (IETM/ETMS) and other third party CD-ROM Applications Index, Display, Launch Interactive Electronic Engineering Drawing Applications (IEDS) Functionality Similar To ETM/IETM Support Provided In ATIS 1. Raster scanned TM CDs done to the Navy NIRS/NIFF specification. Raster CDs are produced by NSDSA. 2. Raster scanned ED CDs done to the OSD EDMICS C4 specification. Drawing CDs produced as a byproduct of aperture card scanning for loading into JEMDICS or via new JEDMICS software that allows for an extract from JEDMICS repository(ex. recently BIW did such a pull to generate a long overdue FFG-7 update. Raster Drawing CDs are produced by the respective planning yard for the given ship class. A few Weapon System ISEAs produce engineering drawing CDs on a limited basis. 3. CDs produced from a JEDMICS repository have a CDEX file (not to be confused with CDEX used in TM CDs). CDEX file allows the contents of the CD to be imported to another JEDMICS repository. Currently no support for ED images other than raster format. Adding functionality similar to ETM indexing/launch capability in FY99. Indexing and launch of ETMs and IETMs. Gives sailor 1 place to look for technical documentation. Sailor does not need to know if he is looking for document that is in ETM format or raster, just simply looking for document. Library Data menu bar allows launching to PMS, EOSS, MIDAS, PMS Scheduler software app, TLMS External apps allow sites to build menu of frequently used WIN apps that can be launched from within ATIS(notepad, MS Word, etc… ). Can even “bookmark” into a specific ATIS TM or ED via ATIS INTERFAC.EXE command line.

5 ATIS FUNCTIONAL CAPABILITIES AND DATA SUPPORTED
Configuration Data Indices Search by identifiers other than DOCID or TITLE Generic Ship’s Drawing Index (SDI) Generic ITP SCLSIS M&CMI Uses SCLSIS database Module is merged with SCLSIS module in Web ATIS Valve Label Index (VLI) GENERIC INDEX Allow external apps to link into ATIS to retrieve specific TM or ED via INTERFAC.EXE TLMS, OMMS-NG, ICAS and ETMs use capability Additional capabilities in Web ATIS (will be included in version 1.4) In addition to just performing Library Data searches (DOC ID andTtitle), ATIS supports searches by various configuration indicies Generic ITP module--provide ITP search capabilities for sailor and better management capabilities for ATIS administrator. Databases produced from TDMIS. Generic SDI module within ATIS--currently used by SSN21 SSBN 726, SSN 688, SSN774, DDG-51, FFG-7, CG-47 classes. Can support additional ship classes. ATIS program will provide converter routines for PYs to convert data to generic format. Requires PM to fund PY to produce SDI data for ATIS on regular interval. VLI, M&CMI, SCLSIS and ITP are currently used primarily by submarines (some carriers use SCLSIS) AMSEC LLC plans to produce SCLSIS databases for CVNs as funded by PEO Carriers GENERIC INDEX--Catch all index. Five data definable fields allow for configuration indicies that do not fit other categories. Added to ATIS for Aegis Reference Designator data for electronic systems. Currently being used by NAVSEA 08 for Rx Plant Valve drawings produced by WPAD. We support access of data from CDs, hard disk, floppy, RAID etc..

6 Difference in capabilities provided by Web ATIS
Import modules not currently in Web ATIS Databases built in 32 bit ATIS and converted to SQL Server format Provide Index Service web search and combined search (TM, ED, and Web) Web search does not necessarily search all data formats Data is bundled by class, not by hull so searching via ATIS allows user to determine applicability for a given hull Some of the configuration modules not currently included in Web ATIS Generic Index (planned for next release) M&CMI merged into SCLSIS module as both modules use the same database Raster annotations and List Drawings Module not brought over from 32 bit ATIS

7 Future Releases 32 Bit ATIS Version 1.4 Web ATIS
Changes to ED import module Upgrade of Raster Image Display (RID) Interfac Capabilities added with Web ATIS release VLI Changes as a result of Web ATIS Batch User add utility SDI format 10 (for VA Class) Support for Windows XP Numerous bug fixes and minor enhancments Web ATIS Support for Windows XP and Windows 2003 SDI format 10 Upgrade to RID plugin/ActiveX controls Web Services calls with TDKM Media Management Utility Caching restrictions Various minor fixes

10 ATIS DATA SOURCES Data Sources Raster TM CDs ETM CDs
Data is not owned by ATIS program Same data (CDs) are used by all versions of ATIS Data not necessarily conducive to Web searches Bundling typically by ship classes Raster TM CDs Produced/ Distributed by NSDSA Port Huenueme CA Bundling and distribution is by ship class SEA 07 Controls Distribution of Submarine CDs Over 820 Raster TM CDs ETM CDs Produced/Distributed by designated TMMA Documents are OCR scanned and SGML tagged Source data is maintained in SGML repositories ETMs are bundled and distributed on ATIS compatible CDs Over 230 ETM CDs Data is NOT owned by the ATIS program. Raster TM CDs are produced by NSDSA, Raster ED CDs are produced by planning yard. ETM CDs are produced by TMMAs. Various ETM formats are used (HTML, PDF, SGML viewers, etc…). Not all ships of a given class have the same version of ATIS, therefore the data needs to be accessible for all customers. (16 bit, 32 bit, and Web ATIS customers) Data is not necessarily conducive to Web searches as there are various data formats, not all of which can be searched by a search engine, and the meta data is not necessarily internal to the document (stored in ATIS database with pointers to the data). Program offices buy ETMs based on TMCRs Meta data-- What is the standard to follow? VA Class has requirements, TDKM has different requirements, Training community has requirements. NSDSA scans a copy of TMs for raster TM CDs and for loading onto TMPODs for print on demand. 5 levels of ETMs Most developers using level 2 or 3 Various SGML view packages(ex. DynaText, Info Access Greader), Adobe Acrobat and Web Browsers are examples of ETM viewers used. An example of Class 4/5 ETM viewer is the AIMSS viewer. NSWC CD SSES Philadelphia, NAVAIR, and NSWC Port Hueneme are all using as their SGML repository for technical data. The authoritative source for this TM data. EOSS and PMS data are stored in SSES repository as well.

11 ATIS DATA SOURCES Drawing CDs Lists of applicable CDs
Produced by planning yard for respective ship class Not all ships of a given class receive all CDs for that class Ex. DDG 51 class has multiple flights with separate drawings per class Source of data is typically JEDMICS Bundled/distributed by ship classes Output of raster scanning process/extract from JEDMICS source repository Not all images/data loaded in JEDMICS is bundled on ATIS CDs Submarine drawing CDs produced by Electric Boat and AMSEC, LLC Over 2000 raster ED CDs Lists of applicable CDs ATIS CD Cross Reference List TDMIS and GENITP Planning Yard Information For all classes but submarines, ATIS drawing CDs are produced from JEDMICS. ATIS drawing CDs initially produced as a by product of the raster scanning process to load aperture card data into JEDMICS. CDs are now produced by extracting from JEDMICS to make a JEDMICS CD image and then a JEDMICS CDEX to ATIS CD conversion is performed. Over 2000 drawing CDs.

12 ACCESSING ATIS DATA Data is typically indexed into ATIS by Ship Class
Corresponding configuration databases are produced by ship class Data indexing problems can occur in drawing databases if multiple classes are combined in one set of databases ATIS functionality supports one set of databases on line at a time Standalone ATIS has a utility program that allows for switching sets of databases at start up Capability cannot be supported in network version Multi-class capability planned for network ATIS in the future Issues in source drawing data aperture cards requires drawings to be maintained in separate databases to ensure access to technical data. Plannning yards/ DMPAs that produce configuration databases produce class specific databases as well. Aperture cards did not contain title in title field. Without SDI, no way to find the drawing.

13 ATIS INSTALLATIONS Foreign military sales (FMS) support
31 ships running 16-bit 27 networked 258 ships running 32-bit 180 networked (168 with raid) 78 standalone Remaining ships being migrated to 32 bit as hardware is replaced by SPAWAR Replacement of jukeboxes with raid as funding and schedule permits Foreign military sales (FMS) support Royal Australian Navy Spanish navy Saudi Arabian navy Bahrain navy Egyptian navy Prior to AUG 1995 SPAWAR did not have a standard configuration for ATIS installations and struggled with several unique submarine installations. NAVSEA 043 (with 08 and SEA92 support) pushed for standard configuration of Novell load package and ATIS installations on ships and subs at July 1995 NTCSS program review. Gained TYCOM and CINC consensus for standardization Push for initial concepts of PPL process to certify new apps in shipboard environment. TYCOM and CINC support for this process to reduce network down time on ship and tech assist visits from NTCSS. .

14 SUMMARY ATIS is installed on
200+ shipboard networks 82 standalone ship installations over 800 shore facilities TM and ED CDs are typically bundled and distributed by ship classes Configuration databases are bundled by ship classes Data is designed to be accessed in client server and Web ATIS

16 GENERIC SDI MODULE Generic Ships Drawing Index (SDI) module is used by many ship classes to search for engineering drawings by: CIN/ESWBS/SWBS Consolidated Index Number Expanded Ship Work Breakdown Structure Ship Work Breakdown Structure Drawing Number Drawing Title Custom Search Module is termed to be “Generic SDI” as it includes all of the necessary fields required by all ship classes that are using it. File format defined for ship classes using the SDI. Will work with planning yards to develop export routines to convert data to format that ATIS can read for import (.SDI file). CIN is Component Identification Number (used by 726 class) Planning Yards typically prebuild databases for ship classes. Database will support single hull, several hulls of a class or several classes. Ships Drawing Index Module used by: SSN 688 class submarines SSN 21 class submarines SSBN 726 class submarines DDG-51 class FFG-7 class CVNs S8G prototype

17 GENITP MODULE Designed to be ITP module for all ATIS ships to use
Databases generated from data in TDMIS database Allow Administrator to tailor ITP database to several classes, individual class, or hull level ITP import and removal utilities to aid Administrator in building/correcting (additions, deletions, collations, etc….) TM databases as well as auditing database for missing TMs GENITP Search module allows searches by: PUB ID/TITLE APL/RIC ALTERATION HSC Provides availability status of publications (RASTER, ETM, PAPER)

18 SCLSIS MODULE SCLSIS Module allows for searching for TM or ED based on: Alteration APL/AEL(RIC) (Allowance Parts List/Allowance Equipage List(Repairable Identification Code) APL/AEL(RIC) Nomenclature CAGE(FSCM) (Commercial And Government Entity (Federal Supply Code for Manufacturers)) Document Type Drawing Number Drawing Title EIC (Equipment Identification Code) EIC Nomenclature HSC/FGC Description (Hierarchical Structure Code/Functional Group Code) HSC/FGC Number Technical Manual Number Technical Manual Title Valve Mark/Symbol Number Work Center Currently used by SSN 688, SSBN 726, SEAWOLF, and VA Classes. CVNs are using it on some hulls.

19 M&CMI MODULE Motors and Controllers Manual Index is a a module that allows a user to search for ED or TM by: SAC - Service Application Code or description RIC - Repairable Identification Code AEL - Allowance Equipage List APL - Allowance Parts List HSC - Hierarchical Structure Code or description FGC - Functional Group Code or description Currently used by SSN 688, SSBN 726, SEAWOLF, and VA Classes.

20 VALVE LABEL INDEX (VLI) MODULE
Valve Label Index is a module allows a user to search for ED or TM by: SNV by APL RPAV by APL SRD by System VTI by Valve Type VLI by Valve Label SNV Standard Navy Valves - Valves which have been developed by the Navy to standardize the use and manufacture of valves often used on ships. SNVs are organized by APL/AEL(RIC). RPAV Reactor Plant Auxiliary Valves - A table listing the auxiliary valves for the reactor plant by APL/AEL(RIC). SRD Selected Record Drawings - A table of ship unique drawings that have been verified to reflect the individual ship configuration for certain critical systems. SRDs are organized by system. VTI Valve Type Index - The VTI is an computer based index that allows the user to search for valves by various methods. It is organized by valve type and valve size. This permits the user to search for engineering drawings and technical manuals in cases where the valve label is not known. Currently used by SSN 688, SSBN 726, SEAWOLF, and VA Classes.

21 GENERIC INDEX MODULE Generic Index Module allows users to search for engineering drawings or technical manuals by one to five fields of the Generic Index Data that is loaded Alternative index that data providers can use when none of the other configuration indicies meet their requirements Data Fields are defined by the data provider Can search for partial match, exact match, or initial match of entered search criteria Currently being used by NAVSEA 08/WPAD to allow searches for Nuclear Valve Drawings (less complex than creating an SDI database for the drawings) Limited documentation provided in ATIS for Generic Index as the Generic Index Module search capabilities are governed by the data provided by the producing activity.

22 INTERFAC.EXE Interfac.Exe allows other applications to link directly into ATIS TM and ED databases to launch/display a TM or ED Allows ETM developers to use external SGML references in SGML documents to link to TMs not under control of the developer ATIS database controls linkage so developers do not need to keep TMs in synch ETM developers using this function for linking Can link back into ATIS from HTML pages using ACTIVE X controls in Web ATIS (will be part of 32 bit ATIS version 1.4). Supports the following linkages Windows based product to 32 bit ATIS Windows based product to Web ATIS HTML based product to 32 bit ATIS HTML based product to Web ATIS More information in ATIS AIS documentation What is INTERFAC.Exe? It is a method for linking into ATIS to retrieve a drawing or TM from ATIS without having to use ATIS screens to search for the TM or ED. Assumption is that user already knows which TM or ED they are looking for. INTERFAC.EXE was originally designed to support ICAS application linking into ATIS to display TMs when an error condition occurred in ICAS
