2 History of the Advent Wreath Christian tradition for counting the passage of the four weeks of Advent A horizontal wreath with four candles, each candle being lit on each Sunday before Christmas Modern Advent wreath invention is accredited to Johann Hinrich Wichern.

3 History of Johann Hinrich Wichern Born April 21, 1808 in Hamburg Protestant pastor in Germany Build the Advent Wreath when children kept asking him when Christmas was coming His original Advent Wreath consisted of a wooden circle with 19 small red candles and four large white ones.
