4. Drones ▪4.1.14 (new) -- The use of drones will be prohibited within the confines of stadiums, fields and arenas during NCHSAA contests. This policy includes not only the restricted playing area of the venue(s), but also the physical confines of the entire stadium/field/arena structure.

6. SUBSTITUTION ON BENCH PERSONNEL MISCONDUCT RULE 3-3-3(e) (new) If the game is stopped to issue a caution to or to disqualify bench personnel, any player who has already reported to be a substitute can enter the game.

7. GOALKEEPER SOCKS DIFFERING FROM OPPONENTS RULE 4-1-1(h)3 Socks of goalkeeper must differ from opponents.

9. HEAT ACCLIMATIZATION AND SAFETY PRIORITIES Be aware of Exertional Heatstroke (EHS) and take proper measures during games involving high temperatures.

10. Hydration Breaks If both coaches ask for a water break BEFORE the game, GIVE IT!!!!!! Let the coaches approach you about it. If both coaches agree, give the break around the 20 th and 60 th minute. Give it at a goal kick or throw-in in the defensive half. DO NOT give it during a corner kick nor throw-in in the final third. USE COMMON SENSE!!

11. FIGHTING/RECKLESS PLAY Players, coaches and officials must work together to model and demonstrate sportsmanship and fair play, to minimize risk and to maximize participation.

12. TAPE OR SIMILAR MATERIALS ON SOCKS If tape or a similar material is applied externally, it must be of similar color as the sock. Home team shall wear white (PlayPic A). Away team should have similar color, i.e. maroon could have red tape (PlayPic B).

13. COMMUNICATION Game officials are encouraged to effectively communicate with other officials, players and coaches.

15. Effective Communication Coaches Per the NCHSAA you are the leader of promoting Sportsmanship and EDUCATION-BASED Athletics Your job is not to “work” the officials Persistent questioning of calls may lead to a caution for dissent. Ask your question in a calm, non-sarcastic tone

16. Effective Communication Officials If coach has a question about a decision, DON’T IGNORE THEM! Address them in a calm manner However, do not allow a second, third, or fourth question in succession Do not allow coaches to constantly question your decisions

17. GOAL KICK Players opposing the kicker shall remain outside the penalty area until the ball has cleared the penalty area.

19. AUTHORITY TO SUSPEND PLAY 1.7 SITUATION B The head referee has authority to suspend play.

20. Weather/Lightning Protocol ▪The host school administrator is ultimately responsible for weather related delays/postponements of contests. By NFHS rule, game officials have the authority to delay/postpone games, but are not at the disposal of lightning/weather radars available to game administrators. Use of available technology should be utilized by the appropriate administrative personnel to determine whether to continue or delay/postpone a contest.

21. REPLACEMENT OF GOALKEEPER RULE 3-3-2(b)2 If the referee stops the clock for an apparent injury to a goalkeeper and/or a goalkeeper is attended to on the field (PlayPic A), the goalkeeper shall be replaced by a substitute or field player (PlayPic B).

22. DISQUALIFIED GOALKEEPER DURING PENALTY KICK SITUATION RULE 3-3-3(c)2 During a penalty kick situation, a disqualified goalkeeper’s (PlayPic A) replacement (PlayPic B) may not take the penalty kick.

23. BLEEDING AND OPEN WOUND RULE 3-3-3(d)1 A player required to leave the field because of a communicable disease may be replaced from the bench.

24. UNIFORM RULE 4-1-1(f) Written state approval to wear an American flag (PlayPic A) is no longer needed. Approval is still needed to wear a commemorative patch (PlayPic B).

25. GOALKEEPER PANTS RULE 4-1-1(h)2 Goalkeeper’s pants can have additions of numbers, names, patches and emblems of school logos.

26. STAYS AND STRAPS 4.1.1 SITUATION N “Stays/straps” was added to the language of the rule to more clearly define what is used to keep player’s shinguards in place. “Stays/straps” must be similar to the color of the sock.

27. PROTECTIVE FACE MASK RULE 4-2-8 Removing “with no protrusion” from the rule clears the issue of the nose as a protrusion.

High humidity and low temperature can also cause serious heat-related problems. ✦ Water/fluid replacement breaks recommended each 20 or 30 minutes.
