How The Gospel Impacts My Vote November 4 th, 2012

Gospel Centered Principles of Voting 1 st Principle: The Gospel compels us to exercise our privilege to vote.

Gospel Centered Principles of Voting 2 nd Principle: The Gospel compels us to uphold our duty to vote for what is right in the eyes of God and God alone.

Samuel Adams “Let each citizen remember at the moment he is offering his vote… that he is executing one of the most solemn trusts in human society for which he is accountable to God and his country.” Whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. (1 Cor. 10:31)

Gospel Centered Principles of Voting 3 rd Principle: The Gospel compels us to vote with God’s purposes in mind - not our own selfish purposes. “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” (Matthew 6:9-10)

Gospel Centered Principles of Voting 4 th Principle: The Gospel compels us to vote for those who advance God’s design for the role of government.

Gospel Centered Principles of Voting 5 th Principle: The Gospel compels us to weigh our vote heavily on issues that are most central to the good news of Jesus Christ.

Issues Most Central to the Gospel 1) Sanctity of all human life – from the womb to the tomb. You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. 15 You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. 16 You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. (Psalm 139:13-16)

Issues Most Central to the Gospel 2) Freedom of Religion The first amendment to the US Constitution says: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.”

Issues Most Central to the Gospel 3) Family & Marriage But for Adam no suitable helper was found. 21 So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. 23 The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman, for she was taken out of man.” 24 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. (Genesis 2:20-24)

Issues Most Central to the Gospel 4) Financial Responsibility $1 every second of every day, ($86,400 per day)= 31,688 Yrs to pay back $1 Trillion. $1 every second of every day, = 32 Yrs to pay back $1 Billion. $1 every second of every day = 11.5 Days to pay back $1 Million.

Our Response  Vote with principles of the Gospel in mind.  Vote with God’s purposes in mind.  Vote to advance God’s design for government.  Vote with significant weight on issues central to the Gospel.  Trust God - leave the results in God’s hands.
