2 Spellings: Given out Monday to learn for a test the following week. Maths: given out on Thursday to be given in the following Tuesday. Literacy/Research: given out Thursday for the following Tuesday. Reading: Please listen to your child read for 10 minutes every day and record your comments in their Reading Diary.

3 Literacy We will be looking at fiction by Jeremy Strong, exploring how he creates his stories as a series of exciting humorous episodes. Later on we will be learning the differences between biography and autobiographies. 5 Science In Science this half term we are starting our new topic, The Material World. The children will learn about materials and how they change. First they will test properties of materials before looking at how they dissolve, what a solution is and evaporation. Finally the children compare reversible and irreversible changes. We will be making flubber, crystals and foam elephants!

6 The children will learn more about communicating information securely through an introduction to cryptography (the science of keeping communication and information secret). They will investigate early methods of communicating over distances, learn about two early ciphers, and consider what makes a secure password. Computing We are Cryptographers Cracking codes Vocabulary Binary code cipher decrypt encrypt Morse code password security semaphore Skills Communication Logical thinking E-safety They will learn about the importance of password security for online identity and consider what makes a secure password.

7 History Last half term we found out what it was like to go to school in Victorian England. Now we are going to investigate what life was like for the working child in the mines and factories. Later on we will find out about Victorian Christmas traditions. To support this we will be visiting Hughenden Manor in West Wycombe on the 21 st November to experience a Victorian Christmas.

8 Music Each week we will sing new and old songs as part of whole school singing, and improve our ability to perform different pieces to an audience. We will also be using African drums to create our own rythms. Art/DT This half term we will continue our work based on William Morris. We will be making block prints and designing patterns for fabric and wall paper.

9 PE/Games We are practising our ball handling skills in Games and in PE with Mr Garner we are learning about dancing. PSHE/RRS Our theme for this half term is Getting On and Falling Out. The children will discuss how to make and keep friends, manage their feelings and develop their own strategies for managing and resolving conflict.

10 RE This half term we will continue to focus on the beliefs and practices of Hinduism and the key features of Divali. The children will also learn about the life of a Hindu priest and the inside of a Hindu temple.
