1 BR: What is a legacy? What does it mean to leave a legacy? Today: Writing a Biography of Alexander the Great 5/2/11

2 Its time to write a biography.. Get out a piece of paper. On the piece of paper write “Alexander” Write a response to the following prompt: Alexander the Great was important because ________. Then, for each slide write one conclusion based on what you see or hear. You will hand this sheet in at the end of class.

11 Chapters 1.Alexander’s Beginnings: Where he came from when? Who were his parents? How was his home life? What education did he have? Analyze how his upbringing (home/education) affected him? Who is Bucephalus? 2.Alexander’s Rise to Power: How did he come to power? How was he different/the same as his father? What did he do with his power? What can you infer about Alexander’s character?

12 Chapters 3. Alexander goes to war with Persia: Why did he go to war? How did the war develop? Describe his methods/philosophies of fighting and compare it to the Persian ways of fighting. What routes did he travel during his wars? What were some of the major battles and people he fought? Who did he fight with? Who were his friends? How long did he fight?

13 Chapters 4. Alexander’s end: How did his wars end?How did he die? What were the consequences of Alexander’s death for his empire and the world? 5. What does it all mean? What did Alexander accomplish during his 33 years on the earth? How did these accomplishments affect the world then and now? What is Hellenism? Was he “great?” What critique would you offer of Alexander?
