1 ECE 495 IPhone/Android Apps Development -Aabhas Sharma

2 Iphone vs. Android Development Both have their pros and cons Iphone A lot of resources Better UI builder Better heap analysis – helps fix memory leaks Android Easier to release apps to the market Better programming protocol – uses standard Java Supports all standard Java classes Linux kernel supports extreme test cases SDK can be run on Linux, MACs and Windows. Better memory allocation(garbage collection) in Java

3 Conclusion Using both Android and Iphone could work the best. My application ideas are : 1. Calling card application – Very big market value for international students studying here. We all use a calling card to make cheap calls back home, and the way to do that is you dial one mass collection number, then dial in the number you wish to dial. My proposal is similar to the Google Voice interface that I presently have installed(I can show it). The first time you install it type in the calling card number, and then each time you want to call, just click the contact like you would normally to make a call, and then it gives you a choice of either calling directly or calling through your calling card. The calling card application should automatically call the collect number and push the number you wish to dial onto it, making it a hassle- free process. 2. Cont.

4 Cont. 2. Switch to computer application. If the phone detects that you are in range of your home wireless connection, it should give you an option to transfer your work to your desktop. VNC is already available on the phone, so when you’re in range of your computer and you choose yes, it runs a remote desktop connection of itself on your computer, or the other way around. ( I have used an iphone using Jaadu- VNC client to operate my computer from class to do simple tasks such as shut down, and I’ve used my computer to change the songs, add contacts etc. 3. Color shade detector? Simple application for college/university students who are more aware of their personal appearance? Compares previous photo of their skin tone/teeth shades to the most recent one to see if they’ve tanned enough/or if their teeth need whitening etc.
