First century Jewish Messianic Expectation Deliverance from Roman oppression ~ the folks To not threaten survival ~ the ruling class The religious/tradition aspects of life are well defined. Righteous/sinner distinction is clear. We know how to please God (not make him mad). Politically, we are alright. Rome gives us enough space. Herod is annoying, but he keeps the peace.
