Influenced by the Bauhaus philosophy of “form follows function” (objects should be designed according to the function they have to perform) He is known for his contemporary design with clean lines Used tubular steel frames with canvas, cane, wood, or leather seats Most famous design was the Wassily Chair.

His style is described as organic He is known for his Prairie style of architecture that “fit” into the surroundings He designed furniture to blend with each of his house designs Commonly used horizontal lines, geometric shapes, flat surfaces, and slats.
