Agenda 1. Wood basics; Flatsawn, Quartersawn, wood rays
The texture of the wood ring porous, semi-ring porous, diffuse pored Open pored finishes, semi open pore finishes, closed pore finishes Surface prep: sandpaper information, CAMI, FEPA, garnet, aluminum oxide, silicon carbide, zinc state, where to stop sanding: 150, 180,220 sanding (beyond 220 possible faulty adhesion) Dye = no pigment, Stain = pigment, binder , carrier, Dye-stain = dye and pigment What to expect from a dye, dye solvents What to expect from a stain Dissect the stain: pigments, binders (oil, varnish, lacquer, waterbase), solvents and solvent evaporation Sealers: Amazing how confusing this term to most woodworkers: Sealer definition 1 = first coat of finish you put on no matter what the flavor. Sealer definition 2 a softened resin zinc stated coating 10. Fillers: closed pore finishes 11. Finishes: penetrating = straight oils 12. Finishes: transparent coatings =shellac, lacquer, varnish, urethane, two part coatings 13. Tools for application: rags, brushes, guns 14. Sanding in between coats 15. Final rub out 16. Wax and polish

Wood Basics >>and their varnish brush for finish,
>>all are china hog bristle and hand flagged and tapered. I assume you mean the sorting and arranging of the bristle is a hand operation - it's the hog that does the tapering and flagging. BTW - ever wonder why Chinese Bristle is used???? Well it seems the Chinese prefer older pork and the bristle on their hogs grows longer. Also - their hogs are sem-wild and roam free to forage in sometimes extreme consditions. It's this combibation of climate, diet and length that's the reason China has the best bristle. Jeff Jewitt
