2 SMART Response Initial Set-Up: PC

3 SMART Response There are two steps to get your computer ready to use the SMART Response clickers. These steps only have to be done ONCE!

4 SMART Response Step #1: SMART Response Menu Shortcut Click on the Start Windows button There is a handy SMART Response system tray option available. To activate this shortcut:

5 SMART Response Step #1: SMART Response Menu Shortcut All Programs-> SMART Technologies -> SMART Desktop Menu

6 SMART Response Step #2: SMART Response Setup Tool All Programs-> SMART Technologies -> SMART Tools -> Response Setup Tool

7 SMART Response Smart Response Setup Tool Select SMART Response PE Click OK

8 SMART Response Teacher and Class Set-up

9 SMART Response Button Open a new Notebook File

10 Click on the Response Menu and select Teacher Tools SMART Response: Teacher Tools Set-up

11 *Classroom Name – your students will see this when they use the clickers (then click Save) SMART Response: Teacher Tools Set-up

12 Save this file to your Documents folder (drag this to your server space from time to time to back up) *NOTE: Do not run this file from your server! SMART Response: Teacher Tools Set-up

13 Click on the Add a Class link SMART Response: Class Set-up

14 Type in your class name and passing grade and click Add SMART Response: Class Set-up

15 Your class now appears on the left under Gradebook You can add additional Classes by clicking Add a Class SMART Response: Class Set-up

16 Students can be added to your class two ways: *Import from Infinite Campus Extract *Manually SMART Response: Adding Students to your Class

17 Students can be manually entered by clicking on the Students Tab, then double clicking on a blank field Student information can be entered here SMART Response: Manually Entering Students

18 Students can also be added manually by clicking on the Add button SMART Response: Manually Entering Students Students can be deleted by selecting the student from the list and clicking the Delete button

19 NOTE: Students log into the SMART Response clicker using a Student ID number. This is NOT their MPS Tech ID! The ID field ONLY takes numbers. The Infinite Campus extract pulls their MPS Student I.D. number (ex. 78903). You can change this to a class number to make it easier for students to remember. *This number MUST be unique to the Student! SMART Response: Student ID Numbers

21 Select the section you wish to pull a list of students SMART Response: Import Students from Infinite Campus Extract

22 Under the Index Tab, Select: Instruction -> Reports ->SMART Response User Name: millard Password: report SMART Response: Import Students from Infinite Campus Extract

23 Click Open SMART Response: Import Students from Infinite Campus Extract

24 NOTE: There is a “Glitch in the Matrix”. Once you get the extract from I.C., you will need to open it in Excel and add spaces in the headers. It’s a disconnect between what I.C. can do and what SMART Response requires. See next slide…. SMART Response: Import Students from Infinite Campus Extract

25 Open the SMARTClassExtract.csv in Excel Add a space between: Student and ID Given and Name Family and Name SMART Response: Import Students from Infinite Campus Extract

26 SAVE! Click YES when the annoying warning pops up SMART Response: Import Students from Infinite Campus Extract

27 Meanwhile back in the RESPONSE TEACHER TOOLS… Click on Add students to your class SMART Response: Import Students from Infinite Campus Extract

28 Select the class you are adding student to (Homeroom) and click Next SMART Response: Import Students from Infinite Campus Extract

29 Select Comma Separated Values (CSV) and click Next SMART Response: Import Students from Infinite Campus Extract

30 Navigate to where the SMARTClassExtract.csv file is and click Open SMART Response: Import Students from Infinite Campus Extract

31 Voila! SMART Response: Import Students from Infinite Campus Extract Note: The Privacy button blurs Student ID and Averages

32 SMART Response: Import Students from Infinite Campus Extract MAKE SURE PRIVACY IS ON WHEN PROJECTING!!

33 SMART Response: Making a Backup Copy of Your Class You may want to create a backup of your Teacher file. This file contains your class list and can be shared with other teachers. Select File - > Save a Backup Copy

35 Create a new Notebook Select which class Response ->Start Class ->xxxx Click on Insert Question button SMART Response Instant Question

36 Starts Question Automatically Click Stop this question when students have answered SMART Response Instant Question

38 SMART Response Button Open a Notebook File and click on the SMART Response button

39 Select Title Page Fill out Title and Type (required) and click Add SMART Response Adding Title Page

41 Your Title Page appears. Edit the Grade, Subject, and date by double clicking on them.

42 While still on the Title Page, select the Properties tab Make changes to the Title Page if needed Delivery Mode – Student self paced or Teacher controlled paced Determine what type of feedback you want your students to get on their clickers SMART Response Adding Questions

43 To add a question, click on the Add a Question to the next page link SMART Response Adding Questions

44 Select the type of question and click Next SMART Response Adding Questions Type your question and click Next

45 Select how many answer choices Type answers Click Next SMART Response Adding Questions

46 Select the Correct Answer Assign Points to the question Notes can be added here which appear if you print results SMART Response Adding Questions

47 To add another question right after this one, click Insert Another SMART Response Adding Questions Click Finish when you are done adding questions

48 Your question is done! Wait! What if I want to add a picture? SMART Response Voila!

49 Click on your Gallery tab Or Select Insert ->Picture File SMART Response Adding Pictures

50 Make changes to Points and Answer Key under Properties tab SMART Response Properties Tab

51 By clicking on the Next Steps tab, you can: Add a Question to the next page Make the next page a content page End the quiz SMART Response Next Steps Tab

53 Plug in the SMART Response receiver SMART Response Delivering an Assessment

54 You will get this message after a few seconds. The light on the receiver will be red, then turn flashing green. SMART Response Delivering an Assessment After about 30 seconds, you will get this message that your system is ready. The receiver will have one green light and one flashing green light

55 Start the Class you wish to have take the assessment Select Response ->Start Class Wait… what’s the difference between the class that I created and Anonymous Mode?? SMART Response Delivering an Assessment

56 Select Response ->Start Class A message will appear saying your class started. Click Close SMART Response Delivering an Assessment

57 Turn on Responders Click Join Class (using Enter button) Use arrows to scroll up/down if you need to Find a different class SMART Response Delivering an Assessment

58 Students will enter their ID number which you assigned when you set up your class list (Remember NOT MPS Tech ID’s) and click Enter SMART Response Delivering an Assessment

59 In the Notebook File, click on the Progress Tab When you are ready for students to start answering questions, click on Start the Assessment Now SMART Response Progress Tab: Start Assessment

62 To stop the quiz, click on the Stop Link SMART Response Stop Assessment

64 The Title Page gives you a quick overall look at the assessment results Click on the Show Details link to view individual percentages SMART Response Results

65 Student response data is also available by question SMART Response Results Click on Insert Chart into Notebook to add student results to question Show pie chart

67 Assessment Results can be exported to a CSV file Select Response -> Export Results to… -> Microsoft Excel SMART Response Export Results to CSV file

68 If you want to use this assessment with the same class, you will need to clear the results. Click on the Next Steps tab, then you can click Clear Results to take this assessment again NOTE: Student results data will stay in your teacher tools after you clear the results SMART Response Clear Results from Notebook File

71 After you have created questions, select Response -> Print -> Questions SMART Response Student Paced Quiz

72 Select what information you want on the student printed assessment and then click Print SMART Response Student Paced Quiz: Print Questions

73 Pass out assessment to student, then start assessment in SMART Response (freeze or turn off projector) following previous directions. The students can answer the questions at their pace, and the teacher can monitor progress from computer. SMART Response Student Paced Quiz: Print Questions

74 If you already have an assessment created in another format, you can quickly create an ANSWER KEY Select Response -> Create Answer Key SMART Response Quick Answer Key

75 Add Title Select Question type (T/F, yes/no, etc) Select Correct Answer SMART Response Quick Answer Key

76 After the correct answer is selected, it will automatically advance to a new question SMART Response Quick Answer Key Continue to add questions as needed. Once all questions have been added – click Create

77 The assessment will appear as just question types. You can now give the assessment and collect answers using the response clickers SMART Response Quick Answer Key

78 The Teacher Tools has some additional monitoring capabilities. Once you have started your class, you can view which students have logged in using the Teacher Tools Select Response ->Teacher Tools SMART Response Delivering an Assessment: Teacher Tools Monitoring

90 Voila! SMART Response: Import Questions from ExamView Each question comes in as a separate Notebook Page. Click on the Page Sorter (tab on right hand side) to view all questions

92 NOTE: When you import from ExamView, it will only import the QUESTIONS…. NOT the correct answer. After you import the questions, You will need to go back through and select the right answers for each question! So – how do you do this? SMART Response: Import Questions from ExamView

93 1.Click on the Response Tab 2.Select Correct Answer (answers come in as “opinion” by default) 3.Click on the arrow to advance to next question 4.Repeat…. 5.SAVE! SMART Response: Import Questions from ExamView
