Algebra I

2 What goes next? 3, 5, 7, 9, ____, ____, ____
33, 29, 25, _____, _____, _____ -15, -13, -11, -9, _____, _____, _____

3 Arithmetic Sequence An arithmetic sequence is a numerical pattern that increases or decreases at a constant rate called the common difference.

4 Is it an arithmetic sequence?
Determine whether each sequence is an arithmetic sequence. Explain. -26, -22, -18, -14 7/8, 5/8, 1/8, -5/8 1, 4, 9, 25

5 nth term The nth term of an arithmetic sequence with the first term a1 and a common difference of d is given by an = a1 + (n – 1)d, where n is a positive integer.

6 Find the nth term 3, 5, 7, 9 Write an equation for the nth term of the arithmetic sequence. Find the 9th term of the sequence.

7 Find the nth term Shiloh and her friends spent the day at an amusement park. In the first hour, they rode 2 rides. After 2 hours, they had ridden 4 ride. They had ridden 6 rides after 3 hours. Write a function to represent the arithmetic sequence. Graph the function and determine the domain.

8 Find the nth term Write an equation for the nth term of the arithmetic sequence 1, 10, 19, 28, …. Find the 12th term of the sequence. Graph the first five terms of the sequence. Which term of the sequence is 172?
