1. Tell me about yourself. I currently study _______ at Sias International University. I chose my major because ______________. During my time at university, I ____________. …worked a part-time job at a restaurant. Through this job I learned the importance of being flexible, working well with others, and respecting your boss. …volunteered with Bring Me Hope, an organization that provides support to orphans in Henan. Through this experience I learned ________. I am fluent in both Chinese and English. I am ________, _________, and ________. (strengths) I think I would be a great fit for this job because ________. In the future I would like to ________________.

2. Why do you want this job? Why do you want to work for this company? Tip: Share your passion and your interest. Example: “I love teaching. I want to make an impact on the lives of children. I believe your school is someplace I can do that.

3. What makes you the best choice for this company?  What sets you apart from others who are applying for this position?  What makes you the best candidate for this job? Tip: You can list several of your best qualities or emphasize one extra special quality you have.  I realize that there are likely other candidates who also have the ability to do this job. Yet I bring an additional quality that makes me the best person for the job--my outstanding people skills. I can easily talk with others and build trust. As a tour guide, I think this quality will be a great asset to your company and help customers feel positive and happy about their experience.

4. What qualifications do you have for this position?  Why do you think you’re a good fit for this job?  What special skills do you have? Tip: Be familiar with the job requirements. Give an answer that shows you have those requirements and more. Example: “I have everything you’re looking for. I am friendly and outgoing. I am fluent in both Mandarin Chinese and English. I love to travel.”

What is your greatest weakness? Tip: Choose a real weakness. Show how you have changed OR show how your weakness is a strength.  I have had trouble in the past with planning and organization. However, I’m now taking steps to correct this. I just started using a pocket planner.  My computer skills are not the best. I have taken some classes recently to improve my skills and am always willing to learn more.  Sometimes it is difficult for me to get to get up in the morning, but I am always willing to work late.  My weakness is, I don’t always finish what I start, but I am very creative. And if the project is very important, I will have passion to complete it.  I think my greatest weakness is that I lack confidence, but I will do well in a job that requires someone to be detailed, organized, and reliable.

 Where do you see yourself in one year? Five years?  What are your professional goals? Tip: The interviewer wants to know that you have vision for your future and would like to know how you will use your position in the company…as a stepping stone or as a long term commitment.  I can see myself still working for your company, in a management position.  I see myself settled into a job and raising a family.  In 5 years, I would like to own my own company.

Quote of the Day The greatest use of a life is to spend it on something that will outlast it. - William James

 What is worth “spending” your life on?

What does a great life look like? Ask a hundred people what a great life looks like and you’ll probably get a hundred different answers—but certain answers will make virtually everyone’s list.

Most people would agree, for example, that a great life includes something worth living for, maybe even something worth dying for. A portion of a great life would be devoted to something bigger greater grander than yourself.

Something that inspires you energizes you pulls you forward. Something that responds to your unique talent or touch and, ultimately, makes a difference in the world around you.

A great life would naturally bring more meaning, purpose, love, laughter, wonder and adventure to your days.

And, at the end of your journey, you would look back on a life of significance, rather than regret— knowing in your heart that you left the world better than you found it.

Knowing that you made a difference in the lives of others.

Knowing that you got something wonderful out of life and you gave something wonderful back.

A great life, of course, is not something we experience, it’s something we create.

“To make a difference is not a matter of accident, a matter of casual occurrence of the tides. People choose to make a difference.” –Maya Angelou
