1 Graphic Packaging International
SUSTAINABILITY Update 2013 Mark

2 Vision 2016 Sustainability Goals
Certified fiber procured from 20% to 25% Support 2020 industry goal to increase paper recycling to 70% GHG by 15% Energy procured by 15% Water (effluent) by 15% Safety incidence rate by 50% Notes: Baseline 2008 GHG (Tons / $1,000 Sales) Energy (MMBTU/$1,000 Sales) Water (Gallons Effluent / Saleable Ton) 2

3 GPI Sustainability Performance Dashboard
2016 Target (except where noted) Progress through 2012 (base year 2008 unless otherwise noted) Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions – (metric tonnes C02e/$1,000 sales) -15% -10.9% Reduce Non-renewable Energy - (MMBTU/$1,000 sales) -14.4% Water Conservation - Reduce Water Effluent – Mills - (1,000 Gal/ton) -13.3% Safety Reduce Lost Time Incident Rate - (from base of 2011) -50% -18% Increase Certified Fiber Purchased (from base of 2011 of 20%) 25% 21% Increase recovery of paper and paperboard by 2020 GPI is supporting the industry goal of achieving a recovery rate of 70% by 2020 65.5%

4 Recovered Fiber Support Industry 2020 Goal – Exceed 70% Recovery

5 Organizational Effectiveness
Sustainability Strategy Sustainable business results by accelerating growth, increasing market position, improving profitability, and enhancing our environmental profile Growth Efficiency Organizational Effectiveness New Products that improve environmental profile Acquisitions & International Expansion Sustainability Leadership Differentiation Environmental Profile Improvements Operations Efficiencies World Class Work Environment Safety is Priority #1 “Make a Difference” in our Communities

6 SUSTAINABILITY Making an Environmental Impact
Graphic Packaging International SUSTAINABILITY Making an Environmental Impact Mark

7 Our packaging has a strong environmental story
Renew Recycle Recover Trees absorb CO2 from the atmosphere For every tree that is harvested, 4 are planted 1 12 million more acres of forest land than 20 years ago 1 Compost SUS® Sustainably managed Pine forests Renewable resource Renewable energy Engineered for moist environments Recyclable Fibers that are no longer effective are filtered out and can be used for other commercial purposes Compost Filler for cement Paperboard cartons are a lifecycle product. The raw material, fiber, starts as a tree, a renewable resource, and is made into paper based products like virgin and recycled cartons. Highlight the points in each box as you make your way through the life cycle. Keys There are more trees today than 30 years ago Paper and Paperboard are recovered at 66.8% on of the highest. With wall paper and books included in that number the recovery rate is astonishing compared to other packaging materials Fibers can be recycled many times There are end of life scenarios for paperboard and GPI continues to explore ways to utilize waste fiber for energy or other commercial uses. 86% of Americans have access to recycling programs 3 Paper and Paperboard - one of the highest recovered materials at 65% 2 Paperboard recovery is 50% 2 CRB 100% recycled fibers Designed dry grocery products Recyclable Methane avoidance Paperboard can be recycled many times Sources: 1- US Forest Service 2 - EPA 3 - National Recycling Coalition

8 GPI ENERGY PROFILE Renewable Energy
Significantly Offsets our Carbon Footprint GPI ENERGY PROFILE Fossil Fuel 47% Renewable Energy 53%

9 GPI leading industry to create a recycled board certification that:
A New Approach GPI leading industry to create a recycled board certification that: Provides substantiation for recovered fiber Does not confuse consumers like Forest Certifications do Is focused on a single function – validating the recovered material claims Will not distinguish between pre and post-consumer Available Q1 ‘14

10 Improving Our World: Biomass
Macon Mill conversion to 100% Biomass energy a carbon-neutral, renewable energy source $80M investment - high-efficiency biomass boiler and 40 megawatt turbine generator CO2(e) emissions reduced 200k tons per year Excess electricity will be placed on grid Selling renewable energy credits Complete ‘Q2 2013 The Benefits of Biomass Include: There’s enough energy produced to power more than 27,000 homes annually! The greenhouse gas reduction is equal to the emissions of approx. 35,000 cars annually. 66% The number of households in Macon, GA that could be powered with this energy1

11 Energy Management – Converting Reducing Purchased Energy
Comprehensive Demand Management Initiative Goals: Train GPI personnel to understand the energy flow by mapping it, increase awareness, measure and implement on-going solutions Reduce energy demand Followed structured approach - 4 Phase Energy Audit Process: Data Collection Measurement Workshop On-site measurement Solutions Workshop Results: Reduced energy by 8% - 2,150 MGW annually Identified largest energy users at each facility and prioritized - 4 represented 85% Developed procedures for smart energy use Plot energy use by shift and usage event by day and events 4 Phase Energy Audit Process: Data Collection – all utility invoices for the last two years and 15 minute interval data. Measurement Workshop – 2 days of training for our plant energy engineers on data collection techniques and how to use specialized equipment. These monitors can be used for measuring temperature, relative humidity, light intensity, and amps used. On-site measurement – measuring productivity variables, energy flow-mapping, on-site visit by energy expert. Each site reviewed a detailed list of items to measure over a two month period and then analyzed data files. Solutions Workshop – Analyzed data reviewed, savings projects developed and plans, presentation of findings. This two and a half day process identified projects and ranked them for implementation. Detailed project plans were presented to the Business Unit executives for approval.

12 Water Conservation Recycling Water to Help the Community
Sparta Reuse Project Collaborative project with city of West Monroe, LA and GPI to generate EPA and FDA quality reused / recycled water Serves 16 parishes in NE Louisiana – 800,000 people Draw of 18M gallons a day more than the aquifer was being replenished – GPI 10M a day Innovative water recycling system developed (first and only in the US) Results: Reduced Aquifer overdraw by 40% - additional work to achieve 60% underway GPI’s draw from the Aquifer reduced 50% - 5M gallons per day Virtually all waste water in West Monroe is reused Awards: WMonroe recognized with EPA Pisces Award Sustainable Solutions Award LA Water Environment Association White House recognized the mayor with Champions of Change Award

13 TICCIT 2013 “TREES INTO CARTONS, CARTONS INTO TREES” Over 18,000 students participated – 35,000 students since 2008 Joint TICCIT program with several customers Girl Scout TICCIT Patch continues – over 1,800 in Atlanta this year Patch expanding to Boy Scouts A rewarding experience – if you haven’t participated consider TICCIT next year

14 Capri Sun Package Transformation
Environmental Impact 16% reduction in paper tons annually 30,000,000 pounds of fiber saved Fiber reduction enough cartons to wrap the earth at the equator 32% reduction in CO2 emissions 50,000,000 pounds of CO2 eliminated Equivalent 3,800 passenger cars 37.8% Reduction in Energy 307,000mj saved Equivalent to the power needs of 6,600 homes annually 20% Reduction in Distribution Miles 880,000 miles eliminated annual Diesel savings of 170,000 gallons / yr

15 Thank You To articulate the fiber lifecycle story GP created this video. It is available for customers
