What is apartheid? What American word can be compared to apartheid? apartness segregation People in South Africa were separated based on the color of their skin or national heritage. People were not just separated by where they live, but by what types of jobs they could have. Did the government at the time condone these social injustices in South Africa?

People got tired of it and wanted a change. The ANC (African National Congress) began working to find solutions to the problem. Some even protested. One man in particular believed in peaceful protesting. Who was that man?

What is Nelson Mandela most famous for? 1952 became president of the ANC (African National Congress) 1964 Imprisoned (sentenced to life) 1990 released from prison. 1993 Mandela accepted the Nobel Peace Prize as an accolade to all people who have worked for peace and stood against racism. 1994-1999 President of South Africa
