NEXT GENERATION Kidde Engineered Fire Suppression System Designed for use with 3M™ Novec™ 1230 Fire Protection Fluid

Why Replace Halon? Once regarded as the most effective fire suppressant agent for a wide range of applications ChloroFluoroCarbon (CFC) gas Not environment friendly Depletes the ozone layer above the Earth surface Ozone layer filters out harmful UVB radiation Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) of halon is 16 times higher than any other CFC

Fire Suppression System Options Chemical Gases (FM-200™ & 3M™ Novec1230 Fire Protection Fluid) Inert Gases (Argonite etc) Carbon Dioxide Water Mist Others

The NEW Clean Agent 3M™ Novec™ 1230 Fire Protection Fluid

3M™ Novec™ 1230 Fire Protection Fluid What Is Novec 1230? C 6 Fluoroketone F C O

3M™ Novec™ 1230 Fire Protection Fluid Basic Properties Fluorinated Ketone FK-5-1-12 Dodecafluoro-2-methylpentan-3-one or when named from the other end, 1,1,1,2,2,4,5,5,5-nonafluoro-4-trifluoromethyl-pentan-3- one CF 3 CF 2 C(O)CF(CF 3 ) 2 Molecular Weight of 316.04 Boiling point [1 Atm]: 49 o C Freezing point: -108 o C Vapour Pressure 0.4 bar at 25 o C Liquid Density - 1.60 g/ml @ 25°C

 Zero Ozone Depletion Potential  Very low (1) Global Warming Potential / Short atmospheric lifetime  Low toxicity  Effective for total flooding  Safe for sensitive, valuable assets 3M™ Novec™ 1230 Fire Protection Fluid The “Next Generation” Halon Replacement Meeting industry concerns for safety, performance and the environment

3M™ Novec™ 1230 Fire Protection Fluid How Does it Work? Fire can be extinguished by the following mechanisms –By interrupting the combustion chain reaction –By containing or eliminating the source of fuel –By cutting off or diluting the source of oxygen –By removing sufficient heat from the fire Novec 1230 fluid has the highest heat capacity of any commercially available halon alternative, resulting in the lowest extinguishing concentrations for a given fuel.

3M™ Novec™ 1230 Fire Protection Fluid Agent Decomposition Issues Hydrogen Fluoride [HF] can be produced in small quantities during extinguishing process at high temperatures HF Concentration depends on: Fire type and growth profile Detection and control responses Discharge time Agent concentration Enclosure volume

3M™ Novec™ 1230 Fire Protection Fluid Agent Decomposition Issues HF concentration of the same magnitude as HFC-227ea decomposition products HF levels well below hazardous levels for people No threat to sensitive equipment Rapid discharge and extinguishing minimises the production of decomposition products.

Space Saving Installation Halon 1301 CO 2 200 bar Inert Gas Novec 1230 Fluid 300 bar Inert Gas

3M™ Novec™ 1230 Fire Protection Fluid meeting concerns for safety, performance and the environment Fluoroketone CF 3 CF 2 C(O)CF(CF 3 ) 2 Stored as a liquid - discharged as a gas Zero ODP, GWP of 1 with an Atmospheric lifetime of only 5 days Novec1230 fluid has the highest heat capacity of any commercially available chemical agent, giving the lowest extinguishing concentration of 4-6% Safety margin up to 100% (higher than any other clean agent)
