8 Good Cycle Locks  Hardened steel D-locks are commonly accepted as the most successful deterrent of thieves.  Sold at cost to staff & students  August 2007 – 260 D locks acquired partially funded by CCDP  Sold on a sale or return basis.  October 2008 – 500 D Locks purchased  December 2008 – 500 D Locks purchased (Lock return option withdrawn)  November 2009 – 500 D Locks purchased

9 Compulsory Registration & Cycle Marking  All students and staff using a bicycle on University premises must register the cycle with the University Security Office.  Registration designed to identify the owners of bicycles as an aid to crime prevention and the safeguarding of property  Registered cycles issued with a unique numbered label affixed to a conspicuous part of the cycle frame.  Details of the owner recorded on a secure database.

10 Information Exchange – University > Police 24/7  Police  Stop suspicious persons on register cycles  Find stored or abandoned register cycles  University Security able to confirm ownership of registered cycles  24/7 basis throughout the year

11 Provision of better secure cycle storage  University Green Travel Plan provided better cycle storage with improved security.
