1 Social Activities In today’s world, creating a healthy balance between our personal and professional lives can be a challenge. AES recognizes this challenge and coordinates fun activities so that our Interns to get to know each other in a non-work setting. Professional Development Seminars Interns have the opportunity to participate in “Brown- Bag” Seminars in which topics covered relate directly to their professional development, such as “Making the Transition from College to Career”. Community Service In the summer of 2007 a group of Interns and AES employees volunteered with DC Habitat for Humanity to build affordable homes in Northeast Washington, DC. Community Service will remain a key component throughout all of our locations. Here’s what the Interns have to say: “Over the summer I have learned many skills that will benefit me in the future. As an intern I was able to literally look over the shoulders of real engineers. This was useful as I was able to observe the process successful engineers used when dealing with new challenges and solving problems.” “I was able to work on the edge of the government’s spatial research and development teams, creating and implementing new experiments to further the goals of the program…My coworkers were helpful and intelligent…I was not treated like a child, but very much thrown into the melee that the subject matter experts are exposed to day in and day out. While it sounds daunting, it is exhilarating.” Students must be enrolled in an accredited college or university, have declared a major in an AES job related field, and have 24 credit hours of completed coursework. Intern applicants selected may be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. US citizenship is required. Some of our past Interns have majored in the following disciplines: Aerospace, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Math, Mechanical Engineering, and Physics. Internships may be available at many of our 25+ locations all over the United States. How to Apply Visit our website at http://www.aes.itt.com and go to Careers. You can apply by clicking Internships. 2 Advanced Engineering & Sciences (AES) is a division of ITT's Defense Electronics & Services group. ITT is a world power in engineering and manufacturing. Here at AES, we are focused on defining the leading edge. With a talented staff of innovative engineers and scientists, we maintain the critical skills necessary to tackle complex tasks and find the difficult solutions that our customers demand. In order to meet our mission to “Protect, Detect and Connect”, AES provides solutions for complex problems at the highest levels. AES is looking for hard working contributors- high energy individuals currently studying leading-edge technology- that are ready to work with a talented staff of innovative engineers and scientists. If you have a willingness to learn and share ideas in a team environment, we ask you to join us. Protect In a world where more than a dozen nations possess ballistic missile technology and more are racing to acquire weapons of mass destruction, one of America's most pressing national security challenges is to improve current defenses against weapons of mass destruction. In support of these efforts, AES is providing government agencies with a wide range of research, technologies, and engineering support services. Detect Recent events have driven home the need for both military and civilian personnel – from first responders to soldiers in a forward battlefield environment – to be able to test and deploy new sensor technologies and training to deal with a wide range of tactical situations. For critical sensor, security, training and simulation solutions, AES provides leading-edge research and engineering. Connect Today, communications systems must deliver increasing amounts of information any place in the world with increasing speed and reliability. From terrestrial to space- based communications, AES provides customers such as NASA, the FAA, and DoD with technologies and systems engineering expertise. At ITT's Advanced Engineering & Sciences Division, we have a talented staff of engineers and scientists who maintain the critical skills necessary to tackle our customers' most complex tasks and problems. We are known for our ability to develop and apply innovative solutions to problems and threats. We understand current and future markets, anticipate customer needs, and shape innovative and cost effective technology solutions. ITT AES offers an Internship Program that takes real life experiences and allows the intern to be a part of day to day activities that go on at ITT. We are looking for talented and adventurous students who want to work on state-of-the-art technology, provide ideas, and contribute to AES’ mission. Components Meaningful Task Assignments As an Intern at AES, you will work within a project team structure and enjoy a meaningful work experience. Our Interns are involved in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Finance, Accounting, Contracts Administration, IT, HR, and Security. Team Building AES Interns have the ability to interact not only with other students but also with our employees across many specialties and divisions in a professional as well as social context. Through these interactions our Interns have the opportunity to cultivate relationships that will be vital in current as well as future development. Scholarship AES provides selected Interns with the opportunity to receive up to $5,000 each year to be used towards tuition. All scholarship recipients must be Full Time Students with a 3.2 Grade Point Average and have the intent to continue an employment relationship with ITT after graduation. Virtual Technical Team Challenge Over the course of the Internship, Interns get the opportunity to participate in a Technical Challenge which allows them to work in teams submitting a response to a Broad Agency Announcement. The Challenge provides students with the chance to network across multiple disciplines and also serves to highlight the talent and skills of future scientists & engineers to ITT Senior Management.
