Review Of Lesson 1 Before the world began, God purposed to (1) send His Son to save from sin all who obey, and to (2) establish His church.  Jesus’ coming is the overall theme of the Bible.  The law of Moses was a law specifically given to the Jews, and Gentiles were not subject to it.  God now calls all through the gospel.  God made His Son His spokesman today, and He is the one we are to hear, not Moses or the prophets.

Review Lesson 2 The written scriptures are the inspired words of the Lord revealed through the Holy Spirit, not by the will of any man. They are complete, final, and eternal. They require that we walk in them. We are not to go beyond, abiding in the doctrines of Christ. We are to do all things in the name of Christ, i.e. by His authority.

Facts About Sin and Its Consequences  Sin is lawlessness  All have sinned  The wages of sin is death  Sin is not inherited

Ezekiel 18:20 20“The person who sins will die. The son will not bear the punishment for the father’s iniquity, nor will the father bear the punishment for the son’s iniquity; the righteousness of the righteous will be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked will be upon himself.

Facts About Sin and Its Consequences  Sin is lawlessness  All have sinned  The wages of sin is death  Sin is not inherited  All will be judged individually

2 Cor. 5:10 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.

All Mankind In Sin GOD’S GRACE God Provided an Escape from the Penalty for Sin Eph. 2:4-5

God’s Grace Ephesians 2:4-5 4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),

MAN IN SIN GOD’S GRACE God’s Provision for Sin Eph. 2:4-5 Christ’s Death

Isaiah Prophesied of Jesus’ Mission Isaiah 53:4-5 4Surely our griefs He Himself bore, And our sorrows He carried; Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, Smitten of God, and afflicted. 5But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him,

Hebrews 2:9 9 But we do see Him who was made for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone.

MAN IN SIN GOD’S GRACE God’s Provision for Sin Eph. 2:4-5 Christ’s Death The Word of His Grace

Acts 20:32 32 “And now I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified.

2 Thessalonians1:7-9 7 ------ when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire, 8 dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. 9 These will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, God’s Grace Demands Justice

How Do We Respond to the Gospel? Read the Word FAITH

Hebrews 11:1 1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Acts 6:7 7The word of God kept on spreading; and the number of the disciples continued to increase greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests were becoming obedient to the faith.

How Do We Respond To The Gospel? Belief Repentance Confession Baptism Sins Forgiven Read the Word FAITH

BELIEF John 8:24 24‘Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.”

REPENTANCE Acts 17:30 30“Therefore having overlooked the times of ignorance, God is now declaring to men that all people everywhere should repent,

CONFESSION Romans 10:10 10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. Matthew 10:32 32“Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven.

BAPTISM Acts 2:38 38Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 22:16 16‘Now why do you delay? Get up and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on His name.’

1 Peter 3:20-21 20who once were disobedient, when the patience of God kept waiting in the days of Noah, during the construction of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through the water. 21Corresponding to that, baptism now saves you — not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God for a good conscience — through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

Baptism Puts Us in Christ IN CHRIST Gal. 3:26-27 Rom. 6:3 MAN IN SIN

Galatians 3:26-27 26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. Romans 6:3 3 Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death?

IN BAPTISM WE RE-ENACT DEATH, BURIAL, AND RESURRECTION – ROM. 6:3-7 3 Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? 4 therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.

5 For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection, 6 knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; 7for he who has died is freed from sin.

 We are baptized into Christ  In baptism we simulate:  His death ( old self crucified)  His burial ( buried with Him in water)  His resurrection ( raised from burial in water )  Raised to walk a new life in Christ  In baptism we are united with Him.  All past sins are washed away  Freed from slavery to sin Rom. 6:3-7 Summarized

Baptism Puts Us into the Body of Saved People Ephesians 5:23 23 For the husband is head of the wife, as Christ is the head of the church, He Himself being Savior of the body 1 Cor. 12:13 13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, -----

2 Timothy 2:10 10For this reason I endure all things for the sake of those who are chosen, so that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus and with it eternal glory.

Summary All have sinned and face penalty of eternal death. God’s grace provides redemption through the death of Christ and the word of His grace. Faith motivates us to do what God requires for salvation. –Belief, repentance, confession, and baptism

 In baptism:  We have remission of sins.  We re-enact Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection.  We are put into Christ and in His body, the church.  Salvation is in Christ.  He is Savior of those in His body
