4. Essential Standards and Common Core Its all about the Standards and Student Learning! 4

5. Common Instructional Framework (CIF) 5 CIF strategies are research-based methods of delivering the standards in a way that improves student learning. The framework drives consistent, school- wide, instructional practices through the use of strategies to insure that every student reads, writes, thinks and talks in every class, every day.

6. What does this look like in the classroom? Walk into one of these classrooms and you'll see teachers talking less and students talking more. They'll be purposefully working in groups, discussing and sharing ideas, challenging each other, solving problems. In a word, learning. Teachers will be questioning, guiding, pushing students hard to think clearly and communicate effectively. 6

8. Back to the Future The purpose: We are identifying actions to take to create a Culture of learning. What will it look like in May, 2015? Every transition begins with an ending. William Bridges

9. 1.You must speak in present tense to complete column 3. What is you’re a description of what is currently in place in your projected future? What is you’re a description of what is currently in place in your projected future? What do you see, hear, feel? What do you see, hear, feel? (5 mins.)

10. 2.You must speak in past tense to complete column 1. Look back from your projected future and describe how it looked in May, 2013. Talk about culture, learning, practices, challenging issues, etc.

11. 3.You must speak in past tense to complete column 2. You should connect the projected future with the past by answering “how” we moved from the past to the present. What did we do to make the future as it is. Consider how, what, when, with what resources, etc. did we get to this point?

13. Nest steps: 1.Use standards to complete a KUD. 2.Use the KUD to build assessments, lessons 3.Use the KUD and the assessments to decide which strategies to use to delivery the standards.
