1 + PJAS: November 17,2011 Agenda : New Rules Forms What you need to do

2 + BHS, PJAS, Rules and Regs You must clean up absolutely everything that you touch. This includes: PJAS books, Computers, Equipment, Glassware Everything you move from its place in the BHS Science Department, must be put back!!!! Anything you bring in from outside to do your project, must be taken away. Anything you keep in the refrigerator or in the plant room must be removed and the area cleaned when you are finished.

3 + Project Verification: If you do not do your project afterschool with a member of the BHS faculty, you must Provide photographic evidence of your work throughout the project. This will include you in the picture with your specimens as the project procedures. This does not mean one shot of you, but several of you as you do the project. Any student who is found to have falsified data or to have plagiarized any part of their project will not be able to present at PJAS>

4 + Dates and Deadlines December 1, 2011: Last day to submit your procedure Procedure must include a detailed materials list and a step by step procedure. The procedure must include exactly what you plan to do,and how you will measure your data and how you will analyze your data.

5 + More Dates December 12th, 2011: All projects requiring special forms must have all forms submitted by this date. December 19 th,2011: Last day to submit forms for all other projects. All forms must be complete, dated and signed. If your forms have problems on this date you will not be able to participate. December 19,2011: Last day to submit registration fee. Please submit as a check made out to BHS for $20.00. This is for PJAS regional and expenses.

6 + EVERY Project needs Medical Form : Not Available Yet! PJAS Registration form: Not Available Yet! All Other forms are available at this website: http://www.societyforscience.org/isef/document I will email this to all students with approved project.

7 + REQUIRED FOR ALL PROJECTS!!!PROJECTS Adult Sponsor Checklist Research Plan(1A)- You must attach a description of your experiment, hypothesis, and a bibliography with FIVE sources to this form Approval Form1B – Date and Sign all forms.

8 + Special Forms:If you are working with Bacteria, Humans, Animals, Dangerous Chemicals or Equipment IC Institution – Working somewhere other than school or home 2 – Qualified Scientist ( Bacteria, Animals, Hazardous Equipment) 3- Risk Assessment ( May be required for all the above) 4- Human Subjects ( required for all human behavior projects) There are other forms, these are just the most commonly used ones.

9 + Keys To A Winning Project Get Started Early Make an appointment to stay afterschool with Ms. Gallagher, Mr. Bates, or Mr. Morantz

10 + All Projects Must Include: Title, Problem Statement, Hypothesis/Prediction, Theory: background Info Methods and Materials, Data Collection, Analysis, Conclusion and IN THE FUTURE

11 + Great Projects Contain: Only One Variable A Control Group Several Trials Data Analysis (Data Tables, Graphs, Statistical Analysis of some type) A large specimen sample
